Right, as part of my job I am selling stuff on ebay.....
One question - lets say I have put a reserve on an item ok, its obviously worth more than the reserve but now someone has already bid on the flaming thing and I cannot change the reserve...:smiley5:
Will the bidders stop once they get to the reserve or will it/can it go higher? What are my options?
Hobos of interest in the item so I am not worried there.....
Learning curve for me so advice welcome - thank you muchly!

Hi, I use EBay quite a lot. From what I understand, your reserve price is the lowest you will accept. So if you have a reserve on for eg. £25, and you start the bidding at 99p, it won't get sold until it reaches at least your reserve price of £25. I understand that the reserve price doesn't show anywhere except that it will say "reserve not met" at the end of the auction if no one has reached it. Still with me ?? :smiley2:

Hi, yeah with you so far, much appreciated - thanks!:smiley20:
I am just concerned that buyers will stop bidding when it reaches the reserve (which is a quarter of the value!)So basically what I need to know is will the bidding stop when it gets to my reserve, or will it/can it go higher without interference from me?
I wouldn't mind some contructive criticism on my ad's either from anyone willing to take a look? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280195363076&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=018

Bidding wont stop once reserve is reached. It just means you are guranteed the reserve price. If people wish to continue bidding thereafter they can do so and the price will rise accordingly.
Same as an open auction, doesnt mean the bidding stops once the reserve on King Geogie's piss pot has been reached....

Nightape... I stand to be corrected.
The only problem that I can foresee, is that you can pull an item from being sold if the reserve price is not met. If bidding goes over the reserve price (even if it is a mistake) you are obliged to go through with the sale.

NA - right so here is my 5c
I have an ebay store and although I have never sold anything on reserve I have sold plenty on fixed price. I would look into chaninging the reserve price - I am sure you can do it! You change just about anything once you are "live" However what will happen is your bidders will see a notice that will tell them your reserve has changed - which ofcourse may put them off. Once they have reached your reserve there is no reason why they stop bidding.
PM me you need to!
PS careful about the fees!

Feebay is a little hard to get used to.
But yeah i guess the big thing is not to get scared off by how it works
I recently put up my sons toddler bed and it never got a single bid at $100 reserve.
i put it up again at the same price, again no bids so i put it up a third time at $120 and had 11 bids on it and sold it for $153
I also put up my sons playgyms for $100 and had 23 bids & sold at over $200,
on the flip side..
i sold a small 14" TV for $30 well under what it was worth
and ive had plenty of stuff not get bids at all.
im also still trying to work out how to attract more consistent bids, but i guess it comes down to selling stuff that people want..

E-Bay is a rollacoaster.
I've sold a pack of 3 blank cassette tapes for £15.50 that cost me £2.99 from Woolworths (Price Sticker was still on the back) and I've purchased a boxed unused Card Printer for 15% of its RRP.
As I understand it, if you put a reserve and it does not reach that price, you are not obligated to complete the sale, but you will have to pay the listing fee and the extra fee for putting a reserve on it.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the info and advice! Every bit is appreciated and stored away! lol
I tried as hard as I could to make my ads stand out and not be boring and it looks like its paying off - lots of interest there so hopefully I wont be sacked! haha
ZJ, I waited for the 10p listing day and got most of it on that way, but yeah I have been watching the charges mount up! Bosses know what to expect though.....
Thanks again!
Wish I was selling on commission..............:smiley6:

One more thing, every time I've bought or sold, bidding really takes off in the last 10 minutes. I even sold something that got whipped out from under the top bidders nose in the last 20 seconds by a bidder that hadn't even been bidding all along! With all of EBay's tools/alerts, etc. you can watch and bid right up to the last few seconds................ Good Luck ! :smiley20:

I am th ebay queen just got 4 packages thru the door today!!! you have to be sitting there when your item ends as it gets hectic with last minute bidders!! (if you are bidding on things). Selling gets exciting when you get watchers!!! we sold our old door it was a piece of crap, for 31 quid, we were going to chuck it on the skip but thought we'd get someone to pick it up for 99p, so it was great to get it sold for more
