Hi. We migrated from Zim to Oz and really didn't have too much problem. I'm not sure of the process from UK though.
My advice would be to get onto the Uni websites and browse the course you want then take it from there. I've attached two links to two of the the major Uni's here in Oz, there are a whole lot more out there though.

The Australian Embassy should be able to guide you depending on whether you want to migrate as skilled labour or as a student.
Good Luck.

Hi!
Well i must say my experience was eventful to say the least but then my circumstances were not really that straightforward.
Immigration
The two easiest ways to migrate to Aus are : "Last remaining relative" & "Skilled".
There are others ways such as Business visa's but i know little about their requirements.
I was lucky in that my sister was already a Permanent Resident and lived in a regional area (Canberra is classes as regional even though its the capital, go figure?) and for this i only needed diploma level education in my field (IT)
Check out http://www.immi.gov.au for all the info you need.
If you do have a degree and your profession is on the skills shortage list then you should get straight in, usually within a few months of appying.
you can then consider furthering your education after you've arrived as paying International Student fee's is Diabolically expensive!
It also helps if you can secure a Job before you arrive and the company is willing to "sponsor" you.
Where?
Zimbo's tend to stick together and it appears Brisbane & Perth are the two most suited to our life styles.
Weather
Brisbane has weather a lot like Kariba etc... Hot wet & HUMID Summers & cool dry winters.
Perth has Mediterranian weather with Cold wet winters and HOT dry Summers.
Attractions
Brisbane has the Barrier reef (http://www.cultureandrecreation.gov.au/articles/greatbarrierreef/), Great theme parks (http://www.dreamworld.com.au/content/home_v4.asp?), Zoo's (http://www.australiazoo.com.au/) and the gold coast (http://www.australia-goldcoast.com.au/)as tourist attractions.
As i live in Perth i am a little biased..sorry :D
Perth has great beaches (http://www.perthperth.com/beach/), margaret river (http://www.margaretriver.com/pages.asp?code=121) and further north we have the Nigaloo reef (http://www.ningaloo.com/)the biggest west-facing coral reef in the world. Further South we have Esperance (http://www.visitesperance.com/visitesperance.asp) - officially the whitest beaches in Australia and Pemberton & Denmark boast the Enourmous Karri Forests (http://www.denmarkwa.asn.au/treetopwalk.htm). If you are the outdoors type then Perth is perfect for you, if you like the wow factor and more commercial entertainment then Brisvegas is for you!
If youre a Yuppie then head off to Sydney or Melbourne. Avoid Adelaide as it is the arsehole of Australia. If your after smaller places then i hear Cairns is THE place to be! and if you miss mud island then Hobart in Tasmania will be a perfect substitute :D

My bro lives just outside Brisbane and loves it. The job market is good (he's a recruitment manager) but it is difficult to find employers to sponsor you unless you have a very specific trade they require.

I have to agree with all of this. its always better to get an immigration agent, such as hart migration services, phone number +618 9485 1880 they tend to deal with the cr@p and just tell you what to bring. It is a relitively expensive proces (coming to australia). In Western Australia, there are basically more jobs than there are people, so that shouldn't be a big problem.
