Ok this is a long shot BUT has anyone ever done mosaics on wood? I am hoping that some one can tell me if I can just slap grout on the wood and get on with it.
PS there is a time limit on this - come hell or high water this weekend I am slapping grout on and getting on with it!

ZJ, I have never done Mosaics but I have done a bit of tiling. Grout is for sealing between the tiles not for sticking them down. I assume you are doing this on a floor? I can tell you how I had to do it. You need a stuff that's called 'tile and slate' here. Not sure if it is the same there. It's a kind of cardboard backed cement and it goes down on the wooden floor and is nailed down. Next you need your 'tile adhesive' (which is called 'tile adhesive' here. Probly there too!) You put dollops of this on the 'tile and slate' and and scrape it with a tiling trowel. This looks like a normal trowel except it has zig-zag edges.(plastic-cheap). Anyhow, slap you riles on this. If you are doing mosaic, I guess you won't need spacers between the tiles. Once you have all the tiles stuck down and the adhesive is dry you do the grout bit. Mix up the grout(make it quite sloppy) you squish this into the gaps between the tiles. Don't worry if it makes a bit of mess. When this has nearly completely dried you can use a sponge to clean up all the mess that the grout has made!
I hope this all makes sense.

Thanks Joe. Does it make any difference if the adhesive has to fight gravity? The mosaic is for a mirror, and the tiles are actually stones! Maybe I should go back to store and see what adhesives they have.
