I don't think I will bother flying into Hamburg Airport if that's what the winds there are like....

Just goes to show the luftwaffe has the better pilots ! Some very impressive flying considering that it would have been taken off auto pilot on the final approach for landing and was under manual flight command !

hang on, he should not have attempted the landing knowing full well that there was a cross wind, what the hell was he thinking, when an aircraft comes in to land in the angle, he should abort and try again. that could have turned out really nasty!!

Pilot's are trained to "Crab Approach" a runway as you can't move a runway so that you always land into the wind.
What caused that near accident was a sudden increase in the wind speed, which unless the pilot was pyhcic or god, he would not have known about it.

In fairness to the pilot, he did abort the landing! His second attempt was flawless as the wind had dropped.

Perfect text book approach for the conditions, brought it in dropped it below the crosswind and straightened up at the same time for touch down. ...
Just lucky it wasnt a Garuda Air Flight .......... is all I will say !
ps, Cast your mind back to December when that Plane went down in Phuket, Thailand .... not a disimilar incident !
