Call me a perennial optimist but how many bloody zimbos are playing in the UK county scene and South Africa and doinf well. Lets hope in 5 yrs time when Mugs is well and truly gone and the investment returns, so too will our once budding cricketers with their new learned talent from overseas. That will be interesting. Lets hope that it happens before they immigrate and we have to revert to the old "see that guy playing for England/SouthAfrica/Australia he used to be Zimbabwean"
Well the young Zim carribean tour starts today. Piet Rinke looks interesting.Lets see how he does against some better bowling. Also Dabengwa as a spinner something the Windies wil not be comfortable with. Hope they are not too much of an embarrassement. I reckon Lara just came back this series to play because he knew it would be easy runs and his average would be huge! To the new team "Fambai Zvakanaka!"

Not too bad in the 1st One day. We managed to bat all 50 overs and take 5 wickets. Now for todays effort I guess. I wish it was televised so I could watch the Zim spinners, that would be interesting. A new black Warnie maybe? Rainsford looks like he could be promising too.
Hey Rusty did you play with him at school? Was he a good oke or typical zimbo professional and party hard and not take the game too seriously?

Another easy win for WI but at least Zim showing some future prospects especially among the black players. Anyone watched Prospr Utseya bowl. Sounds interesting from the write ups apparently not too bad, although they said that about Paul Strang too!

West Indies brush aside Zimbabwe
One-day international, St John's: West Indies 242-9 (50 overs) beat Zimbabwe 144 all out (46.2 overs) by 98 runs Scorecard (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/shared/fds/hi/statistics/cricket/scorecards/2006/4/12969/html/scorecard.stm)
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41620000/jpg/_41620632_taylor270.jpg Taylor finished with career-best figures of 4-24
West Indies skittled out Zimbabwe for 144 to win the second one-day international in Antigua by 98 runs to take a 2-0 lead in seven-match series.
Opting to bat, the hosts were pegged back by Zimbabwe's bowlers but a late charge saw them set a target of 243.
In reply, Zimbabwe lost their first three wickets - all to Jerome Taylor - for just 11 runs and never recovered, despite Justice Chibhabha's 67.
Taylor finished with career-best figures of 4-24.
West Indies began their innings solidly with Chris Gayle scoring 49 in a stand of 70 with Runako Morton before three wickets fell in 24 balls.
Ramnaresh Sarwan hit three fours and two sixes in his 55, sharing a stand of 69 for the fourth wicket with Shivnarine Chanderpaul (46).
Tawanda Mupariwa, one of two changes to the Zimbabwe side that lost Saturday's opening match, took 3-46.
Gayle and Morton were shackled by Zimbabwe's new-ball pair of Edward Rainsford and Blessing Mahwire on another helpful surface.
In the 16th over the tension eased when Gayle struck three successive boundaries off Justice Chibhabha.
Zimbabwe however, put the pressure right back on as Mupariwa had Morton caught behind, Gayle edged Mahwire then Prosper Utseya trapped Denesh Ramdin lbw.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41620000/jpg/_41620394_gayle203ap.jpg Gayle's patient opening stand was undone by three quick wickets
Sarwan got the innings moving with two leg-side sixes off Utseya but he and captain Brian Lara both fell to Mupariwa in the space of 14 balls.
Sarwan was caught deep mid-wicket looking for a third six in the 38th over and Lara was taken at fine leg for five trying to scoop over the fielder. However Dwayne Smith entertained the crowd with three sixes in 18 balls to beef up the West Indies' total towards the end.

Zim got thumped again in the 5th test (See cricinfo.com). Not surprising. What is surprising is the negative commentary about the game and attacks on individuals. Dissappointing really. What are they expecting form a team with average age 20yrs! Instead of lambasting the individuals why don't they give Speed and the ICC a serve for doing absolutely fuck all about the situation. No Logan cup for the first time in 100yrs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello ICC dickheads we have a problem!

Oh well more drama with the making of ten provinces when there were only five. I'll try to look on the positive side in that the more people player the bigger the player pool and hence the finding of talent. I hope they are not spreading what resources are there too thin! The talent form most private and some govenment schools should be taken advantage of though. I reckon Zims produce some pretty damn good sportsmen due to the schooling system and dedication of parents. Hope it continues.
Ona positive note Zim spanked Canada and Bermuda in the recent trinations tournament. Lowly opposition I know but some positive things are bound to come from it especially player confidence. Till the bangladeshi's in 3 months. Phew they gave Aus a scare recently so will be a hard battle to win.

Board names provincial heads
Cricinfo staff
June 1, 2006
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has announced the interim committees of its 10 provincial associations.
The new provincial set-up follows the adoption by the ZC of the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) recommendation for national sporting associations to devolve along the country's administrative structure. In line with this recommendation, the ZC then affiliated the new provinces of Bulawayo Metropolitan, Harare Metropolitan, Mashonaland Central, East and West and Matabeleland North and South. It also dissolved the boards of its five old affiliates of Manicaland, Mashonaland, Masvingo, Matabeleland and Midlands as they were constituted under the old provincial set-up.
Crispen Tsvarai will chair the new Bulawayo Metropolitan Provincial Cricket Association, which, together with Matabeleland North and South, was formed from the dissolution of the old Matabeleland. His committee members are Victor Mhlanga, Vumindaba Moyo, Tivington Ncube and Stanley Staddon.
The Matabeleland North Provincial Cricket Association will be chaired by Brian Musumba, with Donald Khumalo, Brian Moyo, Alfred Ndlovu and Lazarus Ndlovu as committee members.
Julia Ndhlovu will chair the Matabeleland South Provincial Cricket Association with Ruth Zulu and Thulani Gumbo, Arthur Maphosa and Sifiso Sibanda as the committee members.
The new Harare Metropolitan Provincial Cricket Association, which is one of the four new provinces formed out of the old ZC Mashonaland province, will be headed by former Mashonaland Cricket Association chairman, Cyprian Mandenge. His committee members are Tendai Kuhlengisa, Elisha Kandi, Taurai Mapfunde and Mike Weeden.
Lavert Zungunde will chair the Mashonaland Central Provincial Cricket Association, which is one of the new affiliates from the dissolved Mashonaland. His committee comprises Maxwell Dzumbunu, Cleopas Ngwenya, Norman Nyawo and Herbert Sithole.
Mashonaland East will be chaired by Edward Matemai, with Jane Chimombe, Rhoda Gotora, Ben Rushambwa and Nicholas Tapfumaneyi as committee members.
Mashonaland West, the fourth affiliate from the old Mashonaland, will be chaired by Temba Mliswa. His committee members are Exodus Makumbe, Brian Mugota, Eberhard Tapera and Trevor Vambe.
Phillip Matiza will chair Manicaland, with Joyce Chizano, John Doka, Bill Taylor and Alistar Zowe as the committee members.
Masvingo will be chaired by Josphat Mbanda, with the other members of the committee being Flavian Kondo, Fanuel Mahembe, Walter Maweni and Richmore Murape.
Freddie Kapuya will chair the Midlands Provincial Cricket Association. His committee members are Liliosa Nyathi, Solomon Madzogo, Paul Mungofa and Charles Office.
The 10 interim boards will run the game in their provinces until such a time as substantive committees are in place. Further, they have been given the mandate to draw up new provincial constitutions, in conjunction with ZC. This will be followed by the adoption of the new ZC constitution, and subsequent implementation of its structures.

Former board president slams Chingoka regime
Cricinfo staff
June 6, 2006
Dave Ellman-Brown, the former president and later chief executive officer of the Zimbabwe Cricket Union, has added his voice to those criticising the current Zimbabwe cricket leadership which opponents claim has taken the game to the blink of oblivion.
Ellman-Brown, who is now the re-branded ZC life-president, said the game in Zimbabwe has continued to sink since the interim board was given the reins in January.
"I am extremely disappointed with what has happened since the SRC decided to appoint an interim committee which had question marks," he Cricinfo. "Now they have disbanded old provinces and set-up new ten ones. I don't believe what happened was legal. The provinces are affiliated to ZC but they are independent associations with their own assets. But by the stroke of a pen ZC, went ahead and disbanded them. We are still to see genuine forensic audit of Mashonaland. We won't see that because they no longer exist. That to me is very depressing."
Ellman-Brown expressed reservations about the source of funding for the new provinces at a time the national association is in a deep financial crisis. "Who's going to fund these provinces? Where is the money going to come from? I can't see it."
He said the former administrators had not been consulted by the Peter Chingoka-leadership since the problems in cricket worsened. "I have never been consulted by Chingoka," he remarked. "We've asked if we could meet with him to discuss matters of general concern. He refused to meet us. We were worried about matters of general issues, about the captaincy, about players leaving, and about other issues. It was in the best interest of cricket why we wanted to see him."
Ellman-Brown added that if the present leadership stays on for two more months, he believes Zimbabwean cricket will be damaged beyond restructuring.
"I believe they have been successful in destroying the game in Zimbabwe. You can't blame it on anything. You can't say its racism. You can't say its elitism. You can't say all those people who have left, both black and white, do not have genuine grievances."
The elimination process by ZC, Ellman-Brown said, had reached a point of no return. "ZC is just manipulating so that they will have people around them who won't criticize them. Anyone with different views to Chingoka and Bvute will go. I do not think the ICC has been strong enough. They have to step in and put corrective measures."
Ellman-Brown also slammed the new format which will domestic cricket run from January to the penultimate months of the year. "In the southern hemisphere, we play in summer. In winter we tour, or players go overseas. For what good reason has this format been introduced?"
He concluded: "I think this regime has got to disappear. They no longer have the respect of anyone. The sponsors have deserted them. In our days we had a lot of corporate support because the sponsors believed in the administration. Cricket is in the hands of people who are not worthy administrators."

Like all Zimbo's lets not sit back and expect things to turn out alright. This is not OK to have a corrupt regime running a once proud game for black and white. One of the only arena's in which we can still compete at an international level!

New constitution ends democratic board
Government takeover in Zimbabwe almost complete
Cricinfo staff
July 5, 2006
The government's grip over cricket in Zimbabwe will increase further if the proposed new board constitution is passed.
It empowers the Robert Mugabe-controlled Zanu-PF regime to appoint seven of the 12 board members for a four-year term, rendering them unaccountable to any of the country's stakeholders. Only five members will be appointed by provincial associations, and they will be outnumbered by the political appointees. They will also be subject to re-election.
The constitution also limits the power of its affiliate provinces, making it illegal for them to pass a vote of no confidence in the national board or any of its members.
On the surface, there is a safeguard in that the constitution stipulates that board members must have cricketing background - Test or ODI appearances, three years previous ZC board experience, umpiring qualifications or a record of cricketing administration. However, a degree will also suffice.
"Some of the conditions are tailor-made to suit certain people who government is likely to appoint," a highly placed official told the Independent newspaper in Harare.
The revelation came at a bitter meeting of stakeholders in Mutare. Thosew present spoke of shocking "power-seeking" after some provincial delegates even wanted their newly-created associations, filled with individuals appointed by the Peter Chingoka-dominated board, to automatically take up 10 of the posts on the ZC board.
However, a senior ZC official said that the new constitution had been forced by the instability which preceded the government intervention in January.

Hick joins elite band
Hick joins elite band
BY JOHN HUGHES
LONDON - Graeme Hick, the 40-year-old Zimbabwe legend, has joined an elite band of batsmen who have scored 100 first-class centuries for one English county. He became the eighth cricketer and only the second since World War 2 to achieve the feat when he scored 139 in Worcestershire's home Championship victory over Northants.
The other seven are Jack Hobbs (Surrey), Phil Mead (Hampshire), Walter Hammond (Gloucestershire), Patsy Hendren (Middlesex) and the Yorkshire trio of Herbert Sutcliffe, Frank Woolley and Geoff Boycott.
Harare-born Hick, now in his 23rd season with Worcestershire, launched a marathon top-class career with Zimbabwe in 1983--he represented his homeland for three seasons--and went on to play for England in 65 Tests and 120 one-day internationals. He totals just on 50,000 runs in all cricket.
Two other Zimbabwe stars have bounced back to run-scoring form. Murray Goodwin hit 235 in Sussex's demolition of Yorkshire at picturesque Arundel, while Andy Flower top-scored for Essex with 84 in an eight-wicket win at Derby.
Dale Benkenstein played a key all-round role in Durham's surprise defeat of Hampshire at Southampton. The former South Africa limited-overs international from Harare was highest scorer with 61 in Durham's second innings, then took 3-16 as Hampshire collapsed from 71-1 to 104 all out.
Another top Zimbabwean, Sean Ervine, is out of Hampshire's Twenty20 Cup campaign that started this week. The all-rounder is troubled by the left knee, which was operated on at the end of last season. Michael Vaughan, the Yorkshire and England captain, has a similar problem and is back on the sidelines after scoring just 14 and 4 against Sussex and being unable to field.
Lancashire and Sussex will clash in the final of the C&G Trophy at Lord's on August 26.
