A little sentimentality - but what a lovely story.
When service, not profits, matters most.
Given that we are celebrating Youth Day today, I'm shelving the column I'd prepared on various dodgy cellphone deals, and devoting most of this space to a story which fits the day.
As I started to read Joburg businessman Bryan Brombacher's e-mail a few days ago, I predicted how it would end, as I've had my share of "greedy, heartless private hospital" stories over the years. But this wasn't one of those stories.
Here's an edited version of Brombacher's email: "On Sunday June 1, I was travelling to my home in Fourways after a busy morning at work, and to my amazement while driving past the Diepsloot squatter camp, I noticed a boy of about two-and-a-half playing in the middle of the R511 road.
