Hi

This email came in from a cousin in Perth. She went to Teachers' Training College, Bulawayo, in 1962. She has taught primary school all her life. She worked at top class schools.

A few years ago, she was finding that her Zim teacher's salary was not keeping pace with inflation so she moved to UK. She worked in care giving posts and got by OK.

He two sons have moved to Perth and they talked her into joining them. She is now finding difficulty getting a teaching position on her Zim qualifications.

Here is her letter, with her name removed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am doing this without her knowledge. I am just trying to help:-

Hi Howie

Thank you so much for emailing. Lovely to hear from you especially now as my morale is rather low. I am having difficulty trying to get a part-time teaching job and I want to avoid the care-work as it can be so depressing. When I went in to the WA College of Teachers (with the many documents they require) I could not be registered as a teacher because my training was only three years and here they evidently do FOUR years. So, I am struggling. Mr Mugabe has certainly given many people challenges. At my age I should be free to knit, walk, swim etc ... especially after all my years of teaching. Anyway, I shall persevere.....

Howard, I dont mean to sound funny but has she tried to look at living in the Emirates and finding a teaching job in the out lying Emirates like Fujairah or Ras Al Khaimah. I know that the teachers are given brilliant salaries and that their housing is provided. You can find links to these schools on the net. Fujairah Private Academy is one that I know of off hand, If she is below 60 should be no problem.

Thanks so much for the suggestion. It could have been an excellent one, because her sister and brother in law are working in Fujairah. Sadly she is an old fart, like me. She would be about 63.

Just think, when she started teaching, you were assured of a good retirement, with a living wage and free medical. I am sure that she will get something.

If an old fart, like me, can still get work, shooting young peoples weddings, there is hope for everyone. :smiley20:

Thanks once again for the idea.

Cheers

What about advertising for extra private lessons in the holidays or after school for those who need extra help?
