Either Australia, New Zealand or USA, preferably somewhere near the sea.

I would like to know which would be the best country to go to with regards to cost of living, medical facilities, workwise etc.

I am originally from Zim living in Italy and am able to apply for an Italian passport now.

I am busy studying AutoCAD and am about to do a course, I worked in the engineering trade for about 16 years, so will be doing the engineering side of the program. How easy would it be to find work in the AutoCAD trade in one of these countries.

The more info, the better.

Have you thought about the Middle East, Always building something here

Hi ! It's almost as good as it gets in the South-West of England. My best mate from Zim was in your line and he got good work here (but found better paid in the Middle East). Bristol has recently received a £50 million pound shopping centre and redevelopment of the city centre and it is booming. I find it quite contradictory with the recent news that the construction industry is dead! Universities, Medical professions to be jealous of, art/media/design colleges, schools, it all seems to be booming. Bristol airport got some of the cheapest flights to Europe, now International airport too. Motorways M5, M4, M32, M6, hour and a half direct to Heathrow, London salaries.......:typing:

Darfur, Sudan: - best placements and easy business start up packages. Minimal competition and all year round building conditions. Requirements: autocad, a vivid imagination for building techniques and materials, low standards and patience.

Sold?

Pardon me for being ignorant, but which part of this planet are you referring to?

The middle East. It's kinda in the middle, but a bit east.

No idea about auto cad, but NZ is a pretty easy place to live. Not too many dramas.

I don't know much about New Zealand except that it's cold. Australia is a land of opportunity, you just have to search the net for the right job in the kind of place you're looking for. Good luck and give me a hoy if I can help, possibly with job search net works etc. ;)

Ah, so jealous of you. Any 'adopt a lost family' organisations could take us lot ? :smiley19:

On a serious note.

I had no intentions on leaving Zim when I met my then future wife, I didn't even know she was Italian until she told me she was taking her daughter to Italy for schooling. Some many months later we decided that it was time to move on, the decision itself was probably late, but we made the move nevertheless.

I am very keen to get out of Italy, it's not my kind of lifestyle, not to say that I want the type of lifestyle I had in Zim, but just something better than we have here. From stories I have heard, the lifestyles in Ausie and NZ are more suited to ex Zimbos, and from info searches etc on the web, the American lifestyle could be quite enjoyable.

Well the best of luck to ya. Me I am in UK and yes it nothing like Zim, but we made a choice and have done quiet well by it. All to their own.

I have a lot of friends there that tell me they are doing ok, but also have a few that if you read between the lines, you can tell that things are not ok, and of course there are those who tell you exactly how it is.

Since I started hearing too many bad stories about the UK after stepping out into the world on my own, I decided that it was not the place for me.

You want to live from hand to mouth then the UK is for you. I have never seen Zimbos making money there and living a good life unless they were born silver spoon style

I have to say it is hard living in uk cause we live on one salary but before when I worked it was ok, the only downside for me is the winter, and it is not so much the cold but the nights getting dark so early, it really gets me down. But I suppose you can get used to it. I still feel like I have not found my place in the world for the time being we are very lucky to still be able to have the small luxaries in life and we have a house that we have bought (well the banks house) and I guess that is more than we would have anywhere else.

I think it depends on what carrer you have. Me I am lucky in that bookkeeping is fairly well paid. Sure we dont have savings, but we have only been here 3 years, we have managed to buy a big house on a lot of land and we still have a little money left over to improve the house. We live well - cold beer in the fridge, we can put juice in the car and go visti mates - it all not doom and gloom. I am happy in UK and would not go back to Zim. Its what you make of it I guess.

I can't agree with you. After being here for three years, I had a really good job, excellent salary and was living really well. I have three sons and was the only earner. We took trips to Europe, toured the UK and had things that we would never have dreamed of back in Zim. Yes, I did work long hours, but then having arrived here with nothing, we started from scratch. And when I lost the plot, I have had plenty of help and although right now I cannot afford all the little extras like holidays and treats, we are still living a good life. And my medical is all free!!

Yes, we have been fortunate enough to end up in an area that is yob free, but then just watching out for Council estates and cheaper rents is all that is needed to do that. I really am tired of people going on about how awful it is in the UK. My attitude is, if it's that bad, leave. I am sure there are plenty of other places willing to take you in and give you a decent standard of living. NOT!!

It's okay for those who have the money and the skills to get into Australia or New Zealand, but some of us don't. I am a single mother with an ex-husband who thinks that the day he walked out on me he ended all responsibility for his three sons. I've worked hard all my life and do not expect anything for nothing, but I do get angry with those who are so focused on the negatives of the UK that they fail to notice all the benefits.

Rant over!!

Definitely, unfortunately, Ausie, NZ, and American women who have parents that own houses are few and far between here in Italy, so will probably have to pay for this ticket myself.

sorry to hear that mate - never fear you have the skills (after all you are a zimbo! + you got autocad behind you... chicks dig architects)

No they dont boards, they just like the dick extensions that the architects can buy. My sister is in the UK and in the last two months I have bailed her out with over GBP1000, she has three kids, schooling is free but she has to pay for everything else. The ex abandoned her in the UK and went to NZ and bought a house and has another girl pregnant, what a loser. She is ready to go back to Zim cos the UK is so kak. She has been there five years and the ex is not paying a penny to the upkeep of HIS children. So tell me that place is not the pits. Ragheads over poms and their weather anyday

You want to live from hand to mouth then the UK is for you. I have never seen Zimbos making money there and living a good life unless they were born silver spoon styleIt's pretty much the same here in Italy, probably all over the world.

Its what you make of it I guess. No beer in my fridge (not good for arthritis) juice in the car is no problem, but no mates to visit, everyone is so tied up in their own worlds.

I'm with you on this, people do tend to take things for granted and not notice the good parts, hence the negativity.

sorry to hear that mate - never fear you have the skills (after all you are a zimbo! + you got autocad behind you... chicks dig architects)Don't need the chicks, I am married. As for the skills, there is not a lot in the outside world that I can't do, I am a qualified fitter machinist, but it doesn't end there, I have done work from baking bread to rebuilding microlights (not to brag, just to give you an idea on skills).

AAAAAh, so agree with you all, I moan and groan about the systems and the weather much of the time. E v e n t u a l l y, after getting settled in, about 1 month, house to rent, kids at school, car, I remember saying, because we had been s o stressed out for 6 months, heck I wish we'd done this earlier !! We are on the dole, rent a house, have no assets, and lousy weather. However, there are indeed many plusses for living in a civilised country and we are British passport holders. I do agree that if you are dinkies (double income, no kids), then you can live very well.

Done that but built them from scratch and the baking thing, yip done that too now fishing for a living, man some of us just get the raw end of the deal. Thats why a Zimbo will always be in demand.
