Mr T in karigamombe Centre made the BEST! dagwood burger!
FYI a dagwood filling is: bacon, egg, beef pattie, onions, tomato & bbq sauce. - really oily, messy but tasted like a full english breakfast in a bun!
and you cant beat that!

Chicken inn: chicken & mushroom burger ooohhhh they are good.

Pizza Inn: Caribean pizza (the one with banana in it)

King Pie!
The best place for lunch was Flatdogs.
For breakfast: Le Cafe (man they made the best baked potatoes!)

What was the name of that take away just as you drove into Msasa from town. They made great sandwiches and fresh orange - we used to stop on the way home from work for a sneaky snack! mmmmmm mmm mmmm mmmm!

Pizza Inn made some good stuff. However do NOT order the seafood pizza. I made that tragic mistake and was VIOLENTLY ill for about two days.

Zimbabwe = no sea = no fresh seafood = bad seafood pizza = very sick Hamster from both ends

Hahahahaha - their Mexicana Pizza is the best ever!

I met a family here who were posted to Zim for 3 years. They work for the British Foreign Office and have lived all over the world. They reckon Pizza Inn pizza is the best in the world so,......there it is....it's official!

Ohhh I miss choc 99's. Man you don't get flakes in the USA, so therefore you don't get choc 99's. It really sucks. And the "hundreds and thousands" here that they put on ice creams suck too in comparison to those at The Eskimo hut in Zim where I got ice cream from all the time.

Hey what was the place near "water world" by the golf driving range? They had pretty good chips and burgers as well. Would always get chips and a choc 99 whenever I went there with my dad to hit balls.

What about the bags of popcorn you could buy. I used to buy them over the convent walls at break time or lunch time. It wasn't popcorn, I think it was poped soy beans or soemthing, but it was good and so cheap.

chantillylace
05-18-2006, 08:31 PM
My Dad owned a Maputi and penny cool factory, he made the best biltong and dryvoers in town and had a Dairy den! God I was a lucky kid!

I loved Deboannaire's Bolognese Sub! We used to buy one on our way to Sports and then eat it at 5 in the morning on the way home! Or go to the 24hr food court in town and have a Steers egg and bacon burger!

What was that place near Water Whirld that Kirsty mentioned? - it's gonna bug me now!

chantillylace
05-18-2006, 09:03 PM
He would sell all his businesses. When he had built something up to it's full potential he'd sell it and start something else. Or with our supermarket - OK were opening up in town so he rented them our building instead of havin competition.

There is a new place in Newlands called Kenge. It makes its own health bread rolls and sandwiches, basically a health food place, but very very nice. Also makes the best brownies ever. But going back some years there used to be a tiny place in Msasa called Little Chef. Best curry for that Thursday morning hangover

Also there is a chinese restuarant Shangri La which is very good and they do take away.

When I met my husband, he was a manager for Chicken Inn in Bulawayo... he lived on the Inns food – 3 times a day and was the skinniest person around (man, how times have changed since I started forcing vegetables down his throat...)

Most of you guys are Harare people, but in Bulawayo, Oriental Take Aways made the best pies in the world and Eskimo Hut rocked with pretty much everything that they produced.

Sorry only just seen this now Chick. My husband recogises the name, he thinks that he would have been a bit older than him and I am afraid that we wouldn't know how to find him. (In 1985 my husband would have only been 14/15).

Just found this link (http://www.nandosuganda.com/chickeninn.htm) that says that Chicken Inn started 1987 in Harare (not sure when it started in Byo)...

Absolutely the best biltong going. Spent a fortune in there in 05, popped in every other day. The owner, who's name I forget, has got to the be the rudest man going to his customer's - there was no customer care going on there, but people kept on going in because he had the best meat and biltong.

More of a pub than a take aways, but "The Beer Engine", half way between Chinhoyi and Chegutu, always stopped there for a drink en route to visit my family, but rode there from Chinhoyi several times on my bicycle and had a braai with the owner. Never had any steaks, just huge chunks of meat, probably roadkill, but always tasted good after a 45km ride.

Samoosas from Rick's Spar in Kwekwe - even yummier
And a Curry Burger from Eskimo Hut in Bulawayo. When we were living in Botswana, my hubby used to make business trips to Bullies.
