And I found the mans head in less than 3 seconds

Shayne
02-09-2006, 10:19 PM
WTF? Thats the stupidest riddle i have ever heard.

The only reason you got it in 3 seconds is because YOU HAVE DONE IT BEFORE! :smiley36:

calmc
02-09-2006, 10:24 PM
Can you 2 stop arguing!!!! Its as if you're married to each other....!!!! I found the man, but I've always been screwed up (It took some time in other words).

The answer to the riddle could be a seatbelt on a pregnant lady!!!!!

Poison

VERY GOOD! One rep for you! Here's another
What will happen to each weight (A and B) when the right most gear turns in the direction of the right arrow?

http://www.highiqsociety.org/_img/puzzle3.gif

Poison
02-09-2006, 11:02 PM
:smiley17: Thank you for the REP:smiley17:

B goes down and A goes up...

chantillylace
02-09-2006, 11:07 PM
My my, these are too easy! Time to step things up a bit!

A rowboat is floating in a swimming pool. Which will raise the level of the water in the pool higher?
A. Dropping a penny in the pool
B. Dropping a penny in the rowboat
C. Both will raise the water the same

Poison
02-09-2006, 11:12 PM
This seems a little harder but I would say dropping the penny in the boat would raise it more as the boat has more displacement..

So B..

chantillylace
02-09-2006, 11:21 PM
Poison you are a bright little button! 1 Rep!

Can you determine the relationships between the figures and the words to find the solutions to the two unknowns?
http://www.highiqsociety.org/_img/puzzle3_2.gif

chantillylace
02-09-2006, 11:25 PM
Actually sorry - I have to spred the rep around a little more before I give you anymore! I hope I don't catch any viruses!

biffon
02-09-2006, 11:29 PM
small ? = LUF
big ? = three linked circles and three sperate squares

Poison
02-09-2006, 11:30 PM
No no, you'll be alright, you won't be getting any viruses..:smiley2: :smiley17:

chantillylace

Try again! You'll have to wait for the answer for tomorrow now! Night night!

biffon
02-09-2006, 11:42 PM
youre kidding -@@#%$^
r= seperate
l= linked
o= balls
u= squares
x= 3
f= 2

so therefor
2 linked squares is
flu or luf or ulf or ufl

and loxrux is three linked balls and three seperate squares

how am i wrong??

Poison
02-09-2006, 11:43 PM
Now I have to start thinking a little..:smiley29:

Richard
02-09-2006, 11:44 PM
The riddle site seems to have all kicked off since i was last here!!!!! no idea about the above, but i am wasted and it is late!!! wedding ring was correct for mine, well done poison. it seems this has reached the next level now, as for yours chantillylace (http://www.thechiefbaboon.com/Forums/member.php?u=29), i think the answer is LUF, AND THREE LINKED CIRCLES WITH THREE SEPARATE SQUARES.

Poison
02-09-2006, 11:44 PM

o= balls

Thats a good theory and you might be right.

Richard
02-09-2006, 11:48 PM
WE CAN ONLY TRY!!! IT ALL SEEMS TO BE GETTING TOO COMPLEX, for a simple guy like myself!!!

Poison
02-09-2006, 11:51 PM
I have a look later on today and see what I can come up with..

Richard
02-09-2006, 11:59 PM
do you think it is fair to have to wait?????? have a good day mate, i am going to crash!!!!

Poison
02-10-2006, 09:10 AM
I think it is LUF and 3 touching Squares and 3 Circles not touching

Richard
02-10-2006, 09:45 AM
how you get that ???? explain yourself poison.

Poison
02-10-2006, 09:50 AM
R = not touching
O = Circles
X = 3
L = Touching
U = Squares
F = 2

From there its simple.

biffon
02-10-2006, 10:18 AM
your theory is sound except for one thing the request was for LOXRUX not ROXLUF

Poison
02-10-2006, 10:38 AM
i was sober when i figured that out..

and now I'm hammered

chantillylace
02-10-2006, 08:51 PM
Biffon my most sincere apologies! I read the words small and big and did not realise that you were referring to the question marks! Of course you were right! 1 rep to show how sincerely sorry I am!

The letter O must represent the circles.
The letter F must represent two.
The letter X must represents three.
The letter U must represents squares.
The letter R must represent figures that are seperated.
The letter L must represent figures that are linked.

D1 to C3???? As that is puting black into check

biffon
02-10-2006, 10:45 PM
i thought it was a8 to b7
but seeing as thats been tried i will shut up and let someone else win this one - my brain hurts

chantillylace
02-10-2006, 10:54 PM
Hope this works! Look up the answer when you give up!

Moving the rook from G6 to C6 is the only move that will allow white to avoid checkmating black. The black king is now in check, but black can capture the white bishop with his rook.

biffon
02-10-2006, 10:56 PM

chantillylace
02-10-2006, 11:08 PM
Travel the path around once. What number belongs in the middle region?
http://www.highiqsociety.org/_img/puzzle4_4.gif

The answer is zero. Imagine that runners are running along the track in the direction indicated by the arrows. If you were to cross the track, walking from one region to another, then runners will either be running from your left to your right as you cross (call this a "positive" perspective) or from your right to your left (the "negative" perspective).
Now imagine standing in the region labeled "2". To leave this region, you must cross the track twice, both in the positive sense hence the label "2". Escaping from any region labeled "1" requires crossing the track once with the positive sense and escaping from the region labeled Ò-1Ó requires crossing the track once with the negative sense. To answer the puzzle É notice that leaving the region in question requires crossing the track twice, once in the positive sense and once in the negative sense. The total count is: 1 + (-1) = 0. Consequently, this region should be labeled zero!

Poison
02-10-2006, 11:13 PM
That's confusing...

chantillylace
02-10-2006, 11:16 PM
The explanation is harder than the puzzle! I guessed 0 but for completely different reasons! Which I guess makes it a wrong answer! he he

Poison

Who am I? I'M ABOUT 8 INCHES LONG. MY FUNCTIONING IS ENJOYED BY MEMBERS OF BOTH SEXES. I'M USUALLY FOUND HUNG, DANGLING LOOSELY, READY FOR INSTANT ACTION. I BOAST A CLUMP OF LITTLE, HAIRY THINGS AT ONE END AND A SMALL HOLE AT THE OTHER. IN USE, I'M INSERTED, ALMOST ALWAYS WILLINGLY, SOMETIMES SLOWLY, SOMETIMES QUICKLY, INTO A WARM, FLESHY, MOIST OPENING. THERE I'M THRUST IN AND DRAWN OUT AGAIN AND AGAIN MANY TIMES IN SUCCESSION, OFTEN QUICKLY AND ACCOMPANIED BY SQUIRMING BODILY MOVEMENTS. ANYONE FOUND LISTENING IN WILL MOST SURELY RECOGNISE THE RHYTHMIC, PULSING SOUND, RESULTING FROM THE WELL LUBRICATED MOVEMENTS. WHEN FINALLY WITHDRAWN, I LEAVE BEHIND A JUICY, FROTHY, STICKY WHITE SUBSTANCE, SOME OF WHICH WILL NEED CLEANING FROM THE OUTER SURFACES OF THE OPENING AND SOME FROM MY LONG GLISTENING SHAFT. AFTER EVERYTHING IS DONE AND THE FLOWING AND CLEANSING LIQUIDS HAVE CEASED EMANATING, I RETURN TO MY FREELY HANGING STATE OF REST, READY FOR YET ANOTHER BIT OF ACTION. HOPEFULLY, I WILL REACH MY BRISTLING CLIMAX TWICE OR THREE TIMES A DAY, BUT OFTEN IT IS MUCH LESS.

Three men, members of a safari, are captured by cannibals in the jungle. The men are given one chance to escape with their lives. The men are lined up and bound to stakes such that one man can see the backs of the other two, the middle man can see the back of the front man, and the front man can't see anybody. The men are shown five hats, three of which are black and two of which are white. Then the men are blindfolded, and one of the five hats is placed on each man's head. The remaining two hats are hidden away. The blindfolds are removed. The men are told that if just one of the men can guess what hat he's wearing, they may all go free. Time passes. Finally, the front man, who can't see anyone, correctly guesses the color of his hat. What color was it, and how did he guess correctly?

With that the guy in the middle knows that the guy at the back saw a black hat. So if the guy in the front saw a white hat he could answer, but he couldn't and so he must have seen a black hat as well and he can't answer either.

So with that, the guy in front knows both of the guys behind him saw a black hat because they couldn't answer and so he answers the question with black hat..

The back man can see the hats worn by the two men in front of him. So, if both of those hats were white, he would know that the hat he wore was black. But, since he doesn't answer, he must see at least one black hat ahead of him.
After it becomes apparent to the middle man that the back man can't figure out what he's wearing, he knows that there is at least one black hat worn by himself and the front man. Knowing this, if the middle man saw a white hat in front of him, he'd know that his own hat was black, and could answer the question correctly. But, since he doesn't answer, he must see a black hat on the front man. After it becomes apparent to the front man that neither of the men behind him can answer the question, he realizes the middle man saw a black hat in front of him. So he says, correctly, "My hat is black."

Here's one for all the mathemeticians out there!

There are one thousand lockers and one thousand students in the school. The principal asks the first student to go to every locker and open it. Then he has the second student go to every second locker and close it. The third goes to every third locker and, if it is closed, he opens it, and if it is open, he closes it. The fourth student does this to every fourth locker, and so on. After the process is completed with the thousandth student, how many lockers are open?

Let's start a few of these going again....

Four switches can be turned on or off. One is the lightswitch for the incandescent overhead light in the next room, which is initially off, but you don't know which. The other three switches do nothing. From the room with the switches in it, you can't see whether the light in the next room is turned on or off. You may flip the switches as often and as many times as you like, but once you enter the next room to check on the light, you must be able to say which switch controls the light without flipping the switches any further. (And you can't open the door without entering, either!) How can you determine which switch controls the light?

I'll post the answer tomorrow!

I will let it run for a week and then post the answers. Feel free to add new brainteazers, but remember to post the answers.

Thinking hurts. However, stupidities come to world without birth pains.

Bulbs

Imagine you are in a room with 3 switches. In adjacent room there are 3 bulbs (all are off at the moment), each switch belongs to some bulb. It is impossible to see from one room to another. How can you find out, which switch belongs to which bulb, if you may enter the room with bulbs only once?

Poison
05-18-2006, 02:49 AM
First of all I'd flick 2 switches (e.g. switch 1 and 3) on for awhile to give the bulbs time to heat up a little. Then I'd switch them off. then flick just 1 of the switches on (Switch 1 for instance) and leave it on. Then walk into the room and you will see the light on for switch 1 and the bulb will be warm for switch 3 and the cold bulb will be for switch 2.

The Man in the Elevator

A man lives on the tenth floor of a building. Every morning he takes the elevator down to the lobby and leaves the building. In the evening, he gets into the elevator, and, if there is someone else in the elevator - or if it was raining that day - he goes back to his floor directly. Otherwise, he goes to the seventh floor and walks up three flights of stairs to his apartment. Can you explain why it is so?
(This is probably the best known and most celebrated of all lateral thinking logic puzzles. It is a true classic. Although there are many possible solutions which fit the initial conditions, only the canonical answer is truly satisfying.)

Is it because he is a midget and he cant reach the button for floor 10? I am thinking that maybe because its raining he can use his umbrella to press the buuton...?

Dont mind me. I am probably completely off track.

Bianca

I have tried to work this one out but gave up soon after, we need the answere its doing my head in!!

Poison
01-16-2007, 01:03 AM
Bianca is right, not sure how you worked it out but here is the answer in full detail..
Here is the solution:

The only lockers that remain open are perfect squares (1, 4, 9, 16, etc) because they are the only numbers divisible by an odd number of whole numbers; every factor other than the number's square root is paired up with another. Thus, these lockers will be "changed" an odd number of times, which means they will be left open. All the other numbers are divisible by an even number of factors and will consequently end up closed.
So the number of open lockers is the number of perfect squares less than or equal to one thousand. These numbers are one squared, two squared, three squared, four squared, and so on, up to thirty one squared. (Thirty two squared is greater than one thousand, and therefore out of range.) So the answer is thirty one.
