In 1996, my wife was diagnosed with a stomach ulcer. They cured it with a strong dose of antibiotics - so easy!

Well the duck wraps worked out realy well my Folks had very nice romatic dinner with candels and all that stuff but I have to confess I sort of cheated for all of you in UK you can do your own duck wraps in 50 min and very little effort.

Step one: go to Sainsbury's or Tesco's Pick up a Sainsburys Peking whole Crispy Aromatic duck for £9.99
Get 2 x bunch of spring onions @ £0.75p = £1.50
Get a cucumer £0.65
Total cost of meal £12.14

Step 2 : Go home slice up spring onions and cucumber chuck duck in oven for 50 min shred the duck off the bone heat up the wraps that come in the kit and put hoi sin sauce on table and WhaaahhhLllllaaaaaa you have fancy dinner. Serves 4 as main cours or 8 as a starter

Boiled Eggs

Honestly? Reminds me of when I was at college - 2 x daily eggs: Fried, Boiled, Raw - depended on your luck that day/meal. Oh, and 3 doorstep slices of bread.

Today was mixed roast vegetables and prawns (shrimps really) cooked in sea salt, black pepper, balsamic vinegar, malt vinegar, olive oil, and prawns (shrimps really). As an aside, homebaked bread buns and a side dish of chick peas in gravy (indian style).

No wonder I am fat.

PennyMac I have a self trained Paki who does all the grocery shopping cooking baking (shortbread to die for) etc. And he costs me US$200/month. Which I consider cheap since it means I dont have to go shopping and expose myself un-necessaryily to the lunatics out here:smiley20::smiley20::smiley20:

Hi Priya

Would it pay to grow your own potatoes? When we went to visit our cousins in Harare, 18 months ago, they asked us to bring potato seed. They were so excited when we handed the packets to them.

Cheers

I have sweet potatoes growing, broccoli (which hasn't done much except produce leaves), leeks, sweet peppers, tomatoes, chillies (of course) shallots, mealies, pumpkin and sugar beans. I've planted two seed potatoes to see how they fare, so fingers crossed they do something. With the rain we've been having, I'm hoping they don't rot, but I'll have to wait and see. Oh, and the usual Indian herbs on my verandah. Tomatoes, I believe, are R2 each now, so I'm hoping my assortment of 'matoes do the trick.

Thanks Mullah. I was gifted the broccoli seeds from the UK, and planted late winter last year. I guess the plants have bolted, but the leaves are pretty tasty nonetheless. I'll definitely plant again in March, and see what happens. At least the leaves haven't gone to waste. :naughty::smiley9:

We had roast chicken marinaded in Nando's lime & mango marinate - yeeeuuummmmmm!!!!!! Thoroughly recommend it for those who can get it (the marinate that is!) Had it with couscous into which we had put raisins & a can of chickpeas in the hope of trying for something Moroccan-stylee. All very nice & stuff but l had the feeling the couscous was lacking a dressing or something to bind it together (rightly or wrongly?) as who wants to be chasing tiny flour balls around your plate but l couldn't think of what. Does anyone have any suggestions or success stories with something similar ? Mayo or salad cream would make it gooey methinks whereas olive oil by itself might make it too greasy. A lemony-vinaigrette thing maybe with finely diced chillies or something else maybe? Cheers.
