I miss the stars - when you see how brightly lit the UK is, no wonder there are never any stars to be seen, even on the occassional clear night.

Beautiful. What I find amazing is that how come India is more lit up at night than say Australia?

India's developing so rapidly and has a very dense population. Australia's mostly desert.

Accepted, but there aren't that many major cities across the country to make it glow like a beacon. I would expect it to show a pocket of light - a bit like southern Africa where Lesotho/Swaziland seem brighter than the rest of SA.
Unless it's the radiation fall out from all the bombing over Afghanistan.....

when i first arrived in the uk after 6 months of living in london one of what i thought was the first clear night i was so impressed to see a star i kept watching it until it flew past my head... thankfully now i can avoid the lights and see the stars should i wish :)

The best place to look at the stars is in the middle of an ocean - I was sailing across the S Atlantic in '86 & could see Halley's Comet quite clearly.
