Right folks, I need some sdvice here. My very capable Cell phone is giving up the ghost. It is a Sony Ericsson Z710i and I like it very much, I have had it for years. Anyway, what should replace it with?
It needs to be very good value, for I have a mortgage and 3 1/2 kids
A flip top, because cell phones live in my pocket.along with all sorts of other shit.
A camera.
MP3 player would be good too.
I like the sony Ericsson operating system, better than Nokia's IMHO
My current phone has 5 alarm clocks, this is a feature I really like but can live without.
Anyway, what does everyone think I should look at?

Firstly, 3 1/2 kids rather get a tv, secondly, if you looking at a phone just get a frikking Nokia, user friendly and compatible with most walls.

If you arent used to Nokia features you may want to stay with a Sony. Although
What price are you looking at?

I am not a fan of Nokia's features, though I will happily use one if it meets the other criteria. I am not sure how much I want to pay, because I should really get a $100 phone, but they tend to be Gayer than Patson at that price, so I guess <$300

eish, thats harsh JM, good one tho, stay with the brand you know as they hardly evolve, but for the upgrade you will find that its has one or two more functions and is the same in a different case. Who knows these days what the hell they will think of next?

Personnaly I like Nokia and currently have the N70, it has everything I need and more.
I've got a Sony Ericson and will never go for anything other than Sony Ericsson!!
The camera is outstanding - Some people don't belive its capable of taking pics like this WITHOUT a zoom!!

I used to like Samsung. Great camera too.
But now...
... I couldn't live without my iPhone - (though it's not a flip top, it's pretty damage resistant, I'm always dropping it). I can access internet and email through wifi wherever I go in the world - holidays, etc - without having to look at purpose "mobile-friendly" sites, but can see the actual website that I know. Unless it has flash.
Then it has the iPod in it. Camera. Address book synced with computer for phone numbers and email addresses. Calendar (also synced) to remind you of appointments etc. Loads of other things which are not vital but very nice to have, like weather updates, daily stock market graphs, and whatever other apps you feel like downloading too from the app store.
Your text messages with each person form in a 'chat style' history as colour coded speech bubbles so you follow a conversation and don't have to find what you once wrote that someone answered a few days later.
The whole screen becomes a calculator keypad or a type pad or whatever's relevant for your application, and is so much better than fiddling around with the tiny screens on traditional phones. You can read PDFs, word documents images and some other email attachments. Zooming in and out makes it just like having a computer with you.
The downside is that the camera has a slow shutter speed and does lovely photos in good light and little movement, but don't try anything moving quickly in poor light because it's just a blur. Generally though, one takes pictures of things to remember or to share, like the view on the ski slopes or whatever - and those pics are fantastic.
As I said, I couldn't live without mine. I hated having a separate phone and mp3 and then still only having access to websites that were formated especially for mobile phones. Wifi access is great.
