Hi everyone,

I know this is a bit daft, but am making my hubby a birthday cake, and need some ideas as my brain has stopped working. The cake is a kariba theme, so thought you might have some suggestions??? So far I have a man sitting in a boat fishing, the trees sticking out of the water, a mummy and baby hippo, bottles of castle.... It's really just the little details that i need help with. Like the bottles of castle in the boat... Is there anything else that you wouldn't be without on a boat in kariba that i could put on a cake???

Any ideas and suggestions very much appreciated!!! :smiley20::smiley20::smiley20:

Lady in a bikini?

A crocodile to go with the Hippo?

Fish Eagle sitting on one of the trees?

An Elephant at the waters edge?

We need a photo of this cake when it is finished - it sounds absolutely fabulous!

well done that lady!

I am also about to make a cake, although nothing to exciting - its my boys fifth birthday, and he wants an omnitrix.

NOW - for those of you who have no boys aged 4-12 this is what an omnitrix looks like:

How the hell am I gonna do BLACK icing?

wow that looks complicated!! black icing can either be bought ready done, or you can get paste colours which are more concentrated than normal food colourings so don't make icing go sticky. Think sugarflair do a black one called "liquorice". They're about £2 from most cake shops, or i go to my local market who sell them cheaper :smiley2:

Oooh, i like the idea of the fish eagle on the tree! Not sure if i'm good enough to make it look any good but will have a fiddle tonight and see! and the croc could go round the base of the cake.... Got me thinking now! Thank you so much :biggrin::biggrin:

Well its a long and complicated story, but basicallt my mom in law is an expert icer - she is presednet of the sugar guilde in zim and has won lots of awards in sa etc. So my plan was always to get her to do the kids cake (she did my wedding cake, which was three mud huts) but ofcourse this has backed fired coz we are now in uk and she is still in zim, so I have a lot of live up to! SUCKS!

Hats off to all you ladies! I can offer no input as my family has banned me from baking cakes. My first attempt at a 'birthday' cake looked like an odd blue frisbee. *sigh* at least I tried..

You girls are all FAR too talented. I cannot bake! Simply and plain, I don't sew, I don't knit, I don't crochet, I don't do ANYTHING crafty at all. I am hopeless. My scones come out like rock cakes.

I can make good ice cream tho! And not bad with Cheesecakes - don't have to actually bake them - the oven it don't like me.

Hats off to you guys tho - all my kids cakes have come from Asda - they do great character cakes!

I usually just make a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. If the birthday person is REALLY lucky, I might write Happy Birthday on the top..

I would love to, but nobody wants to spend money on cakes like this when you can get them for less than £10 at asda.... Plus to be able to register my kitchen for food preparation my husband would have to finish off some diy.... could be a while then.....:smiley2:

Thats just cruel, a zebra instead of a bobo on a gomo - a child can be scarred for life after that experience - lol.
