I know he turned his back on Zim to play test cricket but congrats all the same.
Former England and Worcestershire batsman Graeme Hick says he is 'honoured' after being awarded an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours list.
"It was not something I expected or set out to achieve," the prolific run-scorer said. "You dream of things and after 25 years it is nice to have that sort of recognition," he added. The new pavilion at New Road has been named after Hick to recognise his achievements with Worcestershire.
"That pavilion is something that will stay with me for a long time. I take more out of the other side of cricket rather than just the game.
"It is what it gives you, the friendships, the fun, the laughter, the good side of things," he said.
With an average of over 50 and a top score of 405 not out, made as a 21-year-old against Somerset, Hick firmly made his name in the history books. He surpassed Graham Gooch's record for the most matches in all forms of the game combined and scored 136 first-class centuries before retiring from county cricket in June 2008.
