So with it being a dead rubber does PdV field a 2nd string side to let the 1st XV have a break before the Tri-nations or put out the 1st XV & make it a series whitewash? Hmmmmnnnn . . . . . choices, choices

It will be a sure win if they put Morne Steyn in the team from the beginning and not to save their asses near the end....

I could not agree more - De Villiers always does this - he is such an ass!

And he has the nerve to say on the news tonight that they are waiting until he is ready before they put him in the starting 15. He was ready months ago...

Johannesburg - Springbok coach Peter de Villiers has made 10 changes to the starting XV for the third Test of the Castle South Africa 2009 Lions Series against the British and Irish Lions at Coca-Cola Park in Johannesburg.

De Villiers included only one uncapped player in the starting team when he named Blue Bulls player Zane Kirchner at fullback.

Morné Steyn and Chiliboy Ralepelle will both make their first starts for the Springboks at flyhalf and hooker respectively, while the other newcomers to the starting line-up are Johann Muller, Heinrich Brüssow, Ryan Kankowski, Wynand Olivier, Jaque Fourie, Jongi Nokwe and Odwa Ndungane.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to play against the Lions and we respect them so much, that we wanted to give all our players a chance to take them on,” said De Villiers.

“We believe they are as good as the other guys and that they can go out and do an outstanding job for the Springboks. They will also bring fresh energy to the team after two tough Tests and hopefully give us the quick ball to our backs, because we have shown we are capable of scoring tries from first phase.”

Uncapped Sharks lock Steven Sykes has been included on the bench for the Test. This follows the unsuccessful appeal on Thursday morning by Springbok lock Bakkies Botha for a two-week suspension for dangerous charging.

Sharks captain Johann Muller has been included in the starting team in Botha’s place for his first Test start since the end of the 2007 season.

Bismarck du Plessis, Pierre Spies, Ruan Pienaar and Frans Steyn all drop down to the bench, which also includes Gurthrö Steenkamp, who comes back onto the bench after missing the second Test. Deon Carstens retains his place amongst the reserves.

“This is a very strong side. At the end of the Super 14 I wanted to have 28 players who could play for the Springboks at any time and I think we’ve achieved that goal. I’m very happy with this selection,” said De Villiers.

The Springbok team for the third Test against the British & Irish Lions is (Test caps in brackets):

What has Bryan Habana done to deserve being dropped - I am hoping (not in a nasty way) that it is just because he may be injured!!!!!!!!

Mmm, also not convinced Frans Steyn should have been dropped - he is an awesome fullback! Hey ho, let us see how the new boys fair! :smiley20:

Calm down - they are being rested for the Tri-Nations.

Whilst its nice to see some of the fringe players getting a run, but I think given that the lions have picked their best 22 (ok, ok...their only 22!!!) they are still playing the lions, who are going to :smiley35: amped for this game.

Still, boks by about 7

well it will be a more fair contest except the lions will take this one, in 12 years time they will need to show more adverts of them winning even though they didn't... they will need to prove that it can be done... blah blah blah, with 10 subs... well it's the B team playing...

Franz Steyn is a loose cannon..
put him in the Bok team against the Wallabies and you will see just how poor his defence is.
His aimless field position kicking is also a weak point.. really the 2 things going for him..
his size (breaks tackles very well and his long range goalkicking.

his field position kicking wasn't too bad when he slotted those two 50 yarders against the wallabies...:whistling:
