Heading for Ireland (Gallo)

Bloemfontein – Springbok coach Peter de Villiers had to step in to stop several Boks in the Tri-Nations squad from furthering their careers in Europe after this year’s tournament.
De Villiers this week held two important meetings in this regard. First he met with officials from the Blue Bulls, and then with Jean de Villiers.
But unless the Bok coach comes up with a miracle, the Bok centre will join Irish club Munster immediately after the Tri-Nations.
The future of the Bok wing Bryan Habana was apparently discussed at his meeting with the Blue Bulls officials. Habana was apparently recently “on holiday” in France. Several French clubs are interested in his services.
The Bok coach could possibly ask SA Rugby to support the Blue Bulls and other unions financially in an attempt to keep Habana and other stars in provincial and Super14 rugby.
Nothing prevents the players from playing overseas and still being used by the Boks. If CJ van der Linde (tighthead prop, Leinster) and Butch James (flyhalf, Bath) weren’t injured, both would probably have played against the British and Irish Lions.
Sport24 approached the Bok coach for comment but received no reply. The meetings with representatives of the Blue Bulls and Jean de Villiers were confirmed though.
At least two other players in the current Tri-Nations squad for the Test against the All Blacks also have plans to play overseas. It is already known that the versatile Frans Steyn has signed a contract with the French club, Racing Metro. And Jaque Fourie has been negotiating for some time with French club, Clermont.
