Came off a Jet Ski there one day, lost my trunks and watch in the impact with the water, but bobbed to the surface still wearing my raybans !

I think they look like cormorants, which are called SHAGS in australia!!

I loved the lake, spent much of my childhood there and also at Mazoe Dam.

Really enjoyed Sundays at the Mazoe Hotel when local bands would play in the gardens near the swimming pool

yup - agree. The few you can see in profile do not have the distinctive 'kink' in the lower portion of the neck and the bill does not seem to be straight - also the colouration - Reed comorants are darker - Darters are more brown nad slightly bigger.

Wow - seems I still remember stuff... can't remember what I was doing last week but can remember all my studies and training for spans ago.. (kinda helps I trained with Dr Kit Hustler who did his thesis on Reed Comorants and their sability to swim under water on Kariba...:smiley2: bit of insider knowledge never hurt anyone..)

Anyone else ever swum from Postals across to Wingate... you tend to think it is a great idea after a few soapies... and then realise how foolsih you have been about halfway when it dawns on you that there are flatdogs... at that point you suddenly have the ability to swim real fast... really, really fast...

Or anyone remember the Murumba tournament out of Moths? Jumping off the water tower near the dam wall? Driving up to see them open the sliuces when it filled up...??

Many happy days spent in and around that place.
