Seeing as you guys have been a wealth of info,
i'm thinking of updating my car after it's little altercation with the granite wall, it's pannel beaten and sorted, but experience of ding fixing it usually starts rusting after a year or to, so i was thinking up going for an update, especially as it's approaching it's 10 years and has started costing a little more in maintanence of late... so of the cars on the market the only thing that is newer is an 08 yaris T3, a little pricey but if we can get a deacent trade in it might just be within budget, the only other thing stopping me would be bad reports, it's only down side is that it's and Auto, but short distance driving is all that we ever do around here...

Aren't autos traditionally more expensive to run i.e. on both the fuel economy & servicing (gearbox at least) sides or l suppose in the civilised world there is more than one autobox repair guy & spares are readily available which does make it easier? (& they won't try & pinch the decent parts off your car & substitute them with old, knackered bits!) Have a look at the Parkers guide for both price & general review info. Are there any Yaris owner forums worth investigating?

Personally its not for me, but if its economical, gets you from A to B and is big enough, why not :)

yea peas i know what you mean but as we have a max speed limit of 40m/h the logest road is about 2 miles, half the roads we drive on are green lanes and max speeds of 15m/h, and obviously there is a lot of stop start driving so the auto box is a plus
it's upsides in my book were it's only done 8000 miles it's vertually brand new.

What type of auto is it? The straightforward one or that fancy MultiModeTronic? The latter is terrible and I forsee expense when it goes wrong (which could be quite soon...) - but test it and see if you like it.
Otherwise decent cars - very rarely go wrong.

it's the std 4 gear box, this is what i thought, migrate from the skoda, german engineering is pricey... mainly it comes down to cost at teh end of the day, that and obviously the main fundentals :P and the test drive.

A little Know Fact about the Yaris .... and it is a serious design flaw. They have a habit of breaking the factory fitted alloy wheels on their rear ends, not sure if it is down to how they are mounted and their location or due to stress and weight distribution, but none the less it is an issue.
Hence the steel wheels are actually safer.
If you are trundling around on very short distances, Shell V Power petrol or eqivilant, although a little more in £, will in fact improve you MPG and give you a better return overall on day to day H - W - H runs. ( Pea's as you drive a V6 with various bits of metal bolted onto it, it wont count in your case )
Auto box on them, no issues with them at all as with the engine, if you feel you want a little more out of it, then simply fit a De-Cat pipe on it (keep your CAT for MOT time) it will free up the motor and give you a few extra HP's
As with anything, if you can get the full trim level then that will be a bonus.
Otherwise, personally Autos are great in this country, so much bloody stop start its not worth having a manual.
Ps, You have to give it a Nice Japanese Name ... " Taro " is a good one :)

I expect the Yaris will be economical anyway (well compared to what Im used to).
As iggy said, I find no difference with MPG on V Power, the only difference I have (doesnt apply to others here) is my car kind of goes into safety boost when I use normal fuel. ie: stuff all boost/turbo but V Power is better for any type of car. Whether its a sporty one or not :smiley20:
Is it a 1.4, 1.6?

as well as give you a teeny bit of a rumble from the back end :smiley2:
Although it would be a bit pants as you would need to modify your whole exhaust to suit the rumble,
then the alloys to suit the exhaust,
then tint the windows to suit the alloys,
then pop a little bit of a sound system to suit the windows,
then upgrade the engine to get away from the 5 0 :smiley36:
It never ends...... and don't take any of my advice, once you start... it never ends! :smiley18:

ha ha ha i could just go get me a citrion C1, very impressed with the number we borrowed, a little 1600 on a match box, sh!t off a shovel.....
Sadly the car was a no go though, they weren't too keen to negociate down anymore they had already dropped the price from 9995 to 7995, and only wanted to give us 1k back on our skoda, which i'm sure through a private sale or something else i could get more :P heck i could bring it back to the main land and sell it there, it only has 50k on the clock

they did try and flog us a 207 sport, however it was a rather ghastly "sunburst" orange, i'm quite suprised though even though it was a dec 07, it only had 4k on the clock it was 7k

Is the Scrappage Scheme still going??? because then you can trade £2,000 off a new car, maybe a Citreon C1 which is about £8000 i think

sadly the skoda isn't over 10 years :(it would be another year to go, however i'd never buy a brand new car as they drop in value as u drive them out the door take for eg the two that i've mentioned they have already dropped in value from about 11k to 7 and 8k i'm not prepared to take that kind of hit. i guess we keep looking and see what happens :), thanks for ur help...

Just a thought, you seem to keep mentioning, bring it back to the mainland, so I assume you are in Jersey or somewhere ?
How about trying the dealerships further north ? Some of ones up here are still offering £2000 against your car, no matter the age.
Now, if you are prepared to shop around, the MG range ... ZT ZF ZS etc are still sitting at rock bottom prices for good 2nd hand, low mileage models. You are actually getting a lot of car for what you pay for as well.
Or if you want something that is a wolf in sheeps clothing ... (Just for You Peas ...)http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/cargrouptests/42548/mg_zt_260_v8.html
And its Big Brother :)

This thing will leave rubber anywhere you want it to at anytime !
Only downside to it, is the rear diff ! Its an american make and unfortunately has a habit of occasionally disintergrating when its played with to hard ! (very common to get as a 2nd hand part in the states, but a bugger to get here in the UK) But when you see the power output of this thing, it isnt surprising ....
