Thought we could start a thread and post any new sports results in here rather than hunting through other threads. Besides, i reckon the other sports threads should really just for discussion.
Just post the date, result and perhaps a link for others to view.

England retain Dubai Sevens title
Tom Varndell and Ben Gollings scored two tries each as defending champions England held onto their Dubai Sevens crown with a 28-26 win over Fiji.
Fiji led twice in the first half but Varndell's pace and Gollings' guile gave Mike Friday's side victory in front of a capacity crowd of 60,000.
Fiji fought back from 28-19 down to trail by only two points in the closing stages, but their opponents held on. </DIV>

Aussies inflict thrashing on NZ
New Zealand were bowled out for just 105 to lose the first one-day international in Auckland by 147 runs.
The Kiwis won the toss, but put the tourists in and watched them score 252-8 in their 50-over allocation.
Australia's seamers then ripped through the hosts' batting order, with Brett Lee and Stuart Clark each taking inexpensive three-wicket hauls.
The Kiwis lasted less than 28 overs with Chris Cairns left high and dry, unbeaten on 37 off 32 balls.

THE Netherlands defeated Australia in the women's Champions Trophy final 5-4 in a gripping penalty shootout at the National Hockey Centre today.

not a score but interesting news anyway -
SEVENS rugby is shaping as one of the hits of the Games.
Figures released by Commonwealth Games organisers last Friday show rugby is the second-most sought after ticket, with a record crowd of more than 55,000 guaranteed for the medal matches at Telstra Dome on March 17.
and the IOC are made to look stupid by not allowing 7's rugby into the Olympics for so long!

Zimbabwe Cricket bosses arrested
Chingoka and Bvute accused of currency offences (http://usa.cricinfo.com/zimbabwe/content/story/228654.html)
The Zimbabwe crisis
Chingoka and Bvute arrested
Martin Williamson
December 6, 2005
Peter Chingoka, the chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket, and Ozias Bvute, the managing director, were arrested late on Monday after surrendering themselves at Harare Central police station. The pair are understood to have arrived accompanied by their lawyer, Wilton Manashe.
The news was confirmed by Chief Superintendent Oliver Mandipaka who said: "They have been charged with contravening sections of the Exchange Control Act, and they will appear in court soon." He added that more arrests could follow in the coming days.
A source close to Zimbabwe Cricket said that the charges relate to the ongoing investigation being carried out by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. It is thought that the pair were charged with several offences, including funds misappropriation and violating Zimbabwe s foreign currency exchange regulations.
The ZC board is now expected to meet as a matter of urgency and it is widely rumoured that Chingoka and Bvute will be removed from office. An insider said that the first move would then be to gain entrance to their heavily-locked offices, and hand over all the books and accounts to a forensic auditor.
It is known that ZC is in deep financial trouble. Harare Sports Club has not been paid rent for office space by ZC for two months, and many players have not had their match fees from the New Zealand and India series almost three months ago. The full scale of the financial predicament is not yet known.
The forensic audit will include investigation into alleged importation of many top of the range vehicles for resale in Harare and unexplained cash withdrawals.
If Chingoka and Bvute are ousted then it will pave the way for the striking players to return. Tatenda Taibu, who quit as Zimbabwe's captain last week, is likely to resume and other players who retired because of the Chingoka-led ZC's conduct might also be persuaded to reconsider.
Lovemore Banda, the ZC media manager, repeatedly denied he knew anything about the arrests but failed to respond when asked several times to clarify the situation.
In a letter to the ICC last week, the seven provincial chairmen asked for a freeze on all foreign income pending investigation of transactions through an account in London, income and expenditure accounts for TV companies and "other allegations of several instances of impropriety in ZC".

Jacques Kallis and Ashwell Prince shared a partnership of 144 to revive South Africa on day one of the third Test against Australia in Sydney.
The tourists, who trail 1-0 in the three-match series, reached 230-3 with Kallis 80 not out and Prince on 62.
Kallis batted aggressively despite pain from an elbow injury and he hit 13 fours to pass 7,500 runs in Tests.
Pace bowler Brett Lee earlier picked up two wickets for the home side as South Africa were reduced to 86-3.
Lee had AB de Villiers caught behind for two and he later claimed the vital scalp of South Africa captain Graeme Smith, who was trapped lbw for 39 by a full-length delivery, which swung in late.
Smith's downfall came shortly after Herschelle Gibbs had been bowled off the inside edge by Glenn McGrath for 27.

Australia 4 : Argentina 0
After an opening round loss, Australia, the tournament’s number one seeds, announced their title intentions in style on day four of the BDO Hockey World Cup in Monchengladbach.
The Olympic champions’ arrival on the winners’ list came via a blistering first half assault on Argentina that left the South Americans stunned and out of the contest.
After their scoring touch deserted them in their opening match against Spain, the world number one found a measure of attacking form with a three-goal, seven-minute burst midway through the first half.
The loss ends Argentina’s hope of finishing in the top two places in Pool A and with it a semi final place. They can now only strive for a successful end to the preliminary rounds to avoid a playoff for the bottom four places.
For Australia, their campaign is back on track despite still having some defensive problems which resulted in a number of penalty corners being conceded in the second half.

Netherlands 4 : England 3
The Netherlands staved off elimination with a late goal keeping their World Cup aims alive in the final match of a dramatic day six at the BDO Hockey World Cup in Monchengladbach.
With each match having a bearing on the semi final qualifiers, the Dutch were in the most precarious position, with anything except a victory against England ending their campaign at the earliest point since 1986.
The match could not have started worse for the Netherlands. Walking the tightrope, England threatened to knock the Dutch into World Cup oblivion with two goals in the opening 10 minutes.
However, the Dutch responded well with Teun de Nooijer’s drive from midfield instrumental in the fightback.
After recovering the deficit by half time, England again took the lead early in the second half only to concede it soon after. Then, nine minutes before being bundled out of the World Cup, the Dutch scored the winner.
While their semi finals hopes are dashed, England are now fourth on the Pool B points table and need at least a draw against South Africa on Wednesday to maintain their spot in the 5-8 playoffs.
England could not have done much more in a breathtaking match that was the highlight of a dramatic and enthralling day.

THE Netherlands won its sixth women's World Cup hockey crown today (AEST), a second-half Maartje Paumen double and a classy Sylvia Karres finish earning a 3-1 final victory over Australia.
http://www.foxsports.com.au/common/imagedata/0,5001,5268906,00.jpg
The thoroughly deserved win broke a run of two final defeats for the Dutch and allowed them to claim their first World Cup since 1990.
The Dutch were given further reason to celebrate when captain Minke Booij was named world player of the year after the match.
"After losing the last two finals we brought in some new young players and they have performed wonderfully well in this tournament," said coach Marc Lammers. "We have improved and now have no weaknesses."
Earlier, Argentina, which the beat the Dutch in a penalty shootout in the 2002 final, won the bronze medal, trouncing host Spain 5-0.
Australia and the Netherlands played some fluent hockey in the opening minutes at the Club de Campo, but neither side was able to create a clear threat on goal as the two defences stood firm.
The Netherlands stepped up a gear after a quarter-of-an-hour, and Kim Lammers almost deflected a shot in at the near post, while Eefke Mulder sent a powerful shot just wide moments later.
The Dutch were in control for the rest of the half and appeared to take the lead just before half-time, but the video umpire ruled the goal out when it was decided a long-range Mulder shot had deflected off a Hockeyroo defender rather than Karres.
The Netherlands eventually broke the deadlock when Paumen sent a fierce shot fizzing low into the net past keeper Rachel Imison from a penalty corner five minutes after the break.
Australia equalised six minutes later when Rebecca Sanders fired home a penalty stroke after Dutch defender Janneke Schopman blocked a goal-bound shot on the line with her leg.
However, the Netherlands maintained the relentless pressure and Karres restored its lead with a brilliant reverse-stick finish after bursting into the "D" 20 minutes into the second half. She finished as tournament top scorer with six goals.
Paumen made sure of victory with her second three minutes from the final whistle, an expertly taken penalty stroke that was awarded after a Hockeyroos defender had blocked a Karres shot on the line with her body.
"It's fantastic, amazing, I don't think it will sink in until tomorrow," said Paumen as she celebrated the victory.
"I think the key to our victory was that we were a real team and did everything we could to help each other."
In the third-fourth place play-off, Maria de la Paz Hernandez racked up a hat-trick inside the first 12 minutes for Argentina to set the 2002 winner on its way to an easy victory.
Marine Russo added a fourth after the break and Alejandra Gulla completed the rout with a great finish, turning and shooting at the near post two minutes later.
Despite the defeat, it was Spain's most successful World Cup, itsr previous best performances fifth-placings in the 1976 and 1990 editions, while stand-in captain Nuria Camon was named player of the tournament.

NIGERIA edged lowly Lesotho 1-0 in Maseru to maintain a perfect record in the 2008 African Nations Cup qualifiers overnight.
After surviving a first-half onslaught from "Likoena" (The Crocodiles), the Super Eagles snatched the winner when Middlesbrough striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni finished a Christian Obodo cross.
Everton defender and Nigeria captain Joseph Yobo was outstanding as the home team fought to cause an upset, while Niger was held 0-0 by Uganda in the other Group 3 second-round encounter.
Former champion Nigeria has six points, Uganda four, Niger one and Lesotho none with the next series of fixtures scheduled for March. Only group winners are guaranteed places at the 16-nation tournament in Ghana.
Angola is another country boasting two wins from two outings after beating Group 6 struggler Kenya 3-1 in Luanda through goals from Jose Kalanga, Mateus Costa and Flavio Amado.
Boniface Ambani pulled one back in the closing stages for the Harambee Stars, who were abandoned by French coach Bernard Lama after a shock home loss to Eritrea last month.
Eritrea failed to build on that bright start, only drawing 0-0 with fellow minnow Swaziland in Asmara, where the goalkeepers were outstanding in a lively first half before the standard of football deteriorated.
Angola, shock qualifier for the 2006 World Cup at the expense of Nigeria, tops the table with six points, Eritrea has four, Swaziland one and pointless Kenya appears out of the reckoning.
Congo is the surprise Group 11 pacesetter after outclassing Chad 3-0 in Brazzaville with two goals in six minutes followed by another just after half-time.
The Red Devils lead on goal difference from resurgent South Africa, which won in Zambia for the first time with captain Aaron Mokoena scoring the only goal after 28 minutes, heading home a Delron Buckley free kick.
With just one point separating Zambia from the joint leader, the stage is set for a thrilling three-way struggle to finish first while Chad appears out of its depth.
Another country unaccustomed to top spot is Tanzania, which is one point ahead of Senegal and Burkina Faso in Group 7 after forcing a 0-0 draw with Mozambique in Maputo.
Narcisse Yameogo converted a second-half penalty to give Burkina Faso a 1-0 home victory over Senegal in a west African showdown marred by the sending off of visiting player Papa Diakate.
It was much more one-sided in Group 1, with Ivory Coast getting its campaign off to a flying start by overwhelming Gabon 5-0. Arouna Kone, from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, scored the first hat-trick of the competition.
Arsenal defender Kolo Toure triggered the goal avalanche with an early strike, and Aruna Dindane was also on target for the Elephants, who were playing competitively for the first time under German coach Uli Stielike.
Goalkeeper Rachad Chitou set Benin up for a 2-0 home win over Sierra Leone in Group 9 by converting a penalty midway through the first half, and widely travelled Muri Ogunbiyi made sure of maximum points with a late goal.
Burundi scored after only two minutes en route to a 3-1 home victory over Mauritania, a result that served as a reality check for the visitor which was cock-a-hoop after thrashing Botswana 4-0 last month.
Selemani Ndikumana scored twice and Henri Mbazumutima once for the central African during the first half in Bujumbura, before Buha Brahim reduced arrears six minutes into the second half.
The 12 group winners and best three runners-up from the four-team pools advance to the finals, from January 20 to February 10 2008, while host Ghana qualifies automatically.

Ruthless Windies thrash Zimbabwe
Champions Trophy, qualifying round, Ahmedabad:
West Indies 90-1 (14.2 overs) bt Zimbabwe 85 (30.1 overs) by nine wickets
Match scorecard (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/shared/fds/hi/statistics/cricket/scorecards/2006/10/13013/html/scorecard.stm)
Chris Gayle starred with ball and bat as holders West Indies began their ICC Champions Trophy qualifying campaign with a nine-wicket win over Zimbabwe.
Skipper Prosper Utseya (27) was one of only three Zimbabweans to make double figures as they were shot out for 85.
Jerome Taylor and Dwayne Smith took two wickets and Gayle 3-3, before surviving two dropped chances to hit a rapid 41.
Brian Lara smashed successive sixes as they eased home off only 14.2 overs - before the scheduled dinner break.
West Indies were on top as soon as Ian Bradshaw and Taylor nipped the ball back in to bowl Justice Chibhabha and Hamiton Masakadza.
Tafadzwa Mufambisi got into a tangle from a short delivery from Taylor and edged behind, while Brendan Taylor was run out by Chanderpaul by yards attempting a ridiculous quick single to mid-off.
Half the team was back in the pavilion when Smith found the edge of Stuart Matsikenyeri's bat and it got worse when Piet Rinke was sent back by Elton Chigumbura and was well beaten by Wavell Hinds' throw.
When Chigumbura slogged straight to Taylor at mid-off to make it 58-7, Zimbabwe were still seven runs short of the tournament's lowest score.
Utseya guided his team past that with a 41-ball show of defiance, featuring only two boundaries, until another flurry of wickets saw the innings end in 25 balls.
Anthony Ireland played down the wrong line to Gayle, Dwayne Bravo took a sharp catch at slip to send Ed Rainsford on his way and Utseya was last man out, plumb lbw to the part-time off-spinner.
After a quiet start against accurate bowling, in which he scored two off his first 17 balls, Gayle raced away.
He pulled Ireland for six and four off successive deliveries before clipping the seamer past short fine-leg for another boundary.
The big left-hander was spilled by Utseya running back from extra-cover and Ireland dropped an even easier chance at third man as 30 runs came in two overs.
Another rush of blood saw him finally snapped up at mid-wicket by Tafadzwa Kamungozi but Lara finished matters off in style by launching Utseya over long-on and straight over his head.
It confirmed what many had thought beforehand: the Windies and Sri Lanka should go through to the main stage of the tournament with plenty to spare.

Currie Cup - was a sucky DRAW!!!
Cheetahs 28 - Bulls 28
actually was a fair result given the run of play.. i really thought the cheetahs would pull clear but bulls kept coming... and then in extra time bulls had the lead by three until a successful penalty by Bosman made the sea of orange in the grandstands sigh with relief!!!
New Zealander Tom Pearce once said "Drawings like kissing your sister". Doc Craven quoted it in 1979 when Western Province and Northern Transvaal drew. Morné du Plessis was the Western Province captain and in his speech he said "It's more like kissing your cousin - after a while it's nice". http://www.planet-rugby.com/Tournaments/Currie_Cup/story_54470.shtml

Harlow victorious in bowls final
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42410000/jpg/_42410700_bowls_203.jpg
Greg Harlow has won the Co-operative Funeralcare World Match Play Championship in Sheffield.
Harlow, 38, beat fellow Englishman Mervyn King 10-8 4-10 2-0 to secure his fourth successive world title.
"It's unbelievable, I don't know what it is - I wish we could play all WBT events here," said Harlow afterwards.
"Mervyn played a fantastic game, but all the way through I felt I could win. I really feel at home in Sheffield. Perhaps I should buy a house here."
Harlow negotiated his way to the final after defeating Wales' Robert Weale, while King sent Scotland's Alex Marshall out of the tournament in the last four.
Speaking afterwards, 41-year-old King said: "It's unbelievable to get to another final.
"I made a slow start in the first set, then managed to sneak the second. But Greg played really well and deserved to win."
