Being pretty naive about what's out there on the current camera market l'm hoping someone can offer some advice on a decent camera in the £150-170 area. Something easy & simple to use but with all mod cons, decent optical zoom spec, anti-shake whatever thing, blah, blah, blah. I have my eye on a Fujifilm S1700 for £147.00 as it's a SLR-style looking camera, is big & chunky & looks the business. The guy at the shop had high acclaim for a Fujifilm JZ300 for £167.00 but l don't know as it looks a bit small to be offering so much. l know size isn't everything [here we go with that old line] but bigger [S1700] just looks more substantial & more camera-like. Can anybody help with their thoughts & opinions on these &/or other makes/styles they've found most satisfactory within an affordable price range? Many thanks.

personally i'd say take the splash double ur spend and get a decent SLR

and then spend the money on the lenses, the bodies are the entry level but the higher spec ones just have more functions if your going to "happy snap" then these are perfect.

and remember if ur planning on flying anywhere soon dixons at the airports will do them vat free, i got my camera 100£ off, way cheaper than i could find on the web.

i used to have a fuji s5600 and thought it was an awesome camera, i've also seen some good shots taken with pocket camera's, however the shots i lucky shots i get and slr are way better than without.

pocket camera's well here is a good question where to start

or try an independant lot

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp pop in your basic search critera (if you already have say an 8gig compact flash and dont' want to change it type thing you can look for camera's that only take compact flash.

are you planning any beach or wet holidays?

except i wouldn't recommend the sea and sea one, i bought it, but i've not found it that great have to try a pool day with it, but u look a bit odd heading over to the pools with a camera in hand the police tend to take offence. and it's a bit clunky in hindsight the olympus might have been a better model :P

the kariba pictures forward were with my nikon D40 and then the picturs from the start of the gallery to the kariba shot are with my D90... not a vast difference (i don't think)

sony make some excellent SLR's and as they have taken over minolta (who used to build the lenses for Nikon) you cant go wrong - their pics are of the same quality as the canon so really you cant go wrong! but otherwise ditto Yarru
