I have a unique cookbook. It was published in the late 60s. It was compiled by Rhodesian Women & Home (Pvt) Ltd. Various contributors, from around the country, sent in their favourite recipes.

There is a heavy use of local ingredients, like Colcom back bacon, Willards peanut butter, SunGlow flour, Chipoli grape juice, Kariba bream, etc.

This book has been in our family for years. We are having a cleanout of books. I have put it up for auction on Bid or Buy. The auction closes 10 Dec 17:30.

There is no reserve price. Currently, the bidding is at a low R13.00. If it follows the pattern of other online auctions, there will be a last minute frenzy of bidding.

Howie, I have that very book. My Mom gave it to me in the 80's and I still have it and have used a lot of the recipes.

Hi Lori

I wondered if some TCB members already know the book. I love the way each recipe has the name and town of the contributor.

Cheers

Anybody lucky enough to have one of the old Toc H cookbooks? Those were full of culinary delights.

Shhh....! It's gonna be a secret! :smiley2: But I am good at cooking, so if I have a few Rhodesian recipes in my cookbook that can only do good.

I'm not sure where you'll get one now but some 20-odd years ago the mothers of Plumtree school boys put together a collection of recipes in a ring-bound A5 notepadish-type cookbook call "Fun in the Kitchen" (not the kind of fun l thought but hey-ho each to their own :smiley2:) The recipes are not entirely all Rhodie/Zimie but certainly have a Rho/Zim twist to them (no doubt because of the unavailability of some ingredients). We've tried a few & been very pleased.
