Wish me luck folks as I have to take in dubious areas of "Up North" UK for son to be interviewed or accept places at uni. Now what are the chances of bumping into a Zimbabwean in Bolton, Carlisle, Bradford and Middlesborough. Suspect I will be cold and wet and unable to understand a single word that comes out of anyone's mouth. And NO he's not thick there are only 6 places that offer a very specific course. Regards from a very warm and very sunny, but broke and broken Greece:smiley18::smiley18::smiley18:

Good luck mate! There will be more than a few Zimbos up that neck of the woods to bump into l'm sure (the TCB members will see to that!). Failing that put a Bok jersey on & l know you'll get a lot of appreciative nods & thumbs-up & people willing to chat. Regards from a cold, dark & wet Berkshire - lol! :smiley20:

We are very friendly here up north. We live about an hour and a half from Bradford. I am sure you will bump into some Zimbos in this neck of the woods - there are plenty of us around.
As a rule, I generally avoid Middlesbrough - eish!!!!! Went there one and was not impressed, but that may just have been me.
Don't know much about Bolton or Carlisle though!!!

You never know, my campus was in the armpit of the Midlands (Walsall) but had the most pampered of student villages so we live in hope. Thank God it's not Hull :whistling::whistling::whistling::whistling::whist ling::whistling::whistling::whistling:

I know some zimbo's in Carlisle. I like Zimboykie's bok jersey idea, I'll have to use that one!

Hey Scott, If I was in that neck of the woods I would gladly meet you for a drink but Im afraid I will be right down in Wiltshire which is miles away. I hope all goes well with your son and he gets one of the places. Fingers crossed. The Bok shirt works well. Enjoy.

Whistling ! More like chattering, am freezing my proverbials off at the moment. Boks jersey sounds good, wouldn't mind a Zim one from the Dubai 7s. A "Greek Resident, Please give generously" doesn't go down too well.

Son's northern experience. Is being asked a question by 2 chambermaids at the hotel. Looks at me blankly and asks me to translate. Do so , gives the answer and then asks me what language they were speaking. 2 white English women. That was in Bolton. He's going to be doomed when we hit Middlesborough on Friday

LOL - yes, my hubby got a lot of that when we first moved here.
Well, it does work both ways. We went to Wales in 99 to watch SA play NZ in the 3rd place play offs at the Milleneum stadium. We stayed at a nice little hotel and went for "pre-match" drinks in the bar at the hotel. I was having a nice conversation with the bar tender, and when he went off to serve someone else my hubby turned to me and said "What language is he speaking" - I could not stop laughing. He could not understand the blokes welsh accent at all. :smiley36: :smiley36: :smiley36:
Yes, good luck in Middlesborough!
