Hi. I'm asking you computer boffins out there to help this little old computer-dead lady. Somehow I've managed to remove the volume thing from the bar that runs along the bottom of my screen. It was on 0. I now have some other icons that I don't recall asking for instead. So how can I get my volume back?!!! I want to listen to the music on the Sistine channel clip, and the music in the you-tube clips, and the...........:smiley13::smiley13:

Depends which version of windows you're on, but on mine you'd do this:

1. right-click on the task bar at the bottom of the screen and select 'Properties'.
2. Select the 'Taskbar' tab
3. There's a section titled 'Notification Area' - click on 'Customize...'
4. The you can select the icons you want to hide or show (including volume!)

Good luck!

If you click on your start button and go to control panel there is an icon on there for sound - I don't know if this will work cos I am no boffin. Here's hoping.....

I don't know, Cujimmy and TN, I've tried both ways with no result. I can bring up the notifaication and select icons as you suggested CJ, but the computer will NOT tick the volume box!!!!! I've clicked it right click, left click, double clicks both sides...it will NOT put a tick in the box. SIGH!! :smiley13:

which version of windows?

most versions of windows you can right click the start button, click properties. try and find notifications and then customisation (this is on windows7 for me but i knot it exists in xp)

under there you shoudl see the icons u have hidden or can hide.

make sure ur sound card still works, check your system devices... right click my computer and go to properties (you might have to do this off the start menu if u have lost or replaced the shortcut on your pc. then go to device manager, u should have a sound manager, (with a little speaker icon) if it has a yellow ! then it's broken or if it has a red x then it's disabled. The chances are it will be a realtek soundmax or creative sound labs.

the other option of replacing the speaker on the tast bar, open control panel, (this doesn't appear to work in win 7 so they have hidden it somewhere else, but in xp, if you locate the sound option (you might have to click the button return to previous version of control pannel, hate the new one), double click to open it, and one of the options there will be a tick box to show speaker on task bar.

shout if one of those donen't work let me know what OS and i'll find go digging further :)

LOL - brilliant. To be honest I would probably need the Amarula to understand it! I am hopeless with these sorts of things.
