It does look like Victoria Beckham. My goodness you hit the nail on the head with that.

I hoep that Barbie is just a joke and they are not really making Barbies that look like that. That would be not right if they actually made this doll and sold it.

The leg would break if you tried to bend it at the knee like the barbies in my days used to do.

they are fucking girls, they need a gender role bias, it is all about procreation.

Little girls have been playing with dolls for generations! Role playing is a vital part of a child's development - whether they had plastic dolls made for them or not little girls would still play the whole mummy-baby fantsay! It's how all children learn life skills - by mimicking the adults around them. I find it hard to believe that Barbie's contribute towards teenage pregnancies! Laxed parental care plays a huge part as does the fact that most music, television shows, blockbuster movies and advertsing promotes sex in one form or another! Not to mention peer pressure, curiosity, hormones and all the unfamiliar emotions a teenager has to deal with!

There is the argument that Barbie's distort a child's perception of what a healthy adult woman should look like - I don't buy that. Images of famous stars and models are all around them on a daily basis - I think they play a much bigger part!

THAT ALL BEING SAID THE CONCEPT OF THAT ANNOREXIC BARBIE IS DISGUSTING!

u know much about cognitive psychology then???

according to Roland Bartes, there is a direct correlation between the breaking down of family structures and the appearance of plastic toys... previously when toys were made out of wood and if bits broke off they could be glued back and the toy retained.. however due to the nature of plastic if bits are broken off its harder to repair thus the bond between a child and its toy has become more relaxed and personal relationships like the relationship between toys are dispensable...
if according to prof chantylace.. playing is innocent and meaningless and does not operantly condition children what say you of the "weapons effect" whereby the mere presence of weapons causes individuals to be more aggressive.. is that bullshit too...

how come boys aren't allowed to play with barbie dolls??

what about the famous bobo doll experiement whereby the violence inflicted on a doll by an adult confederat lead to children responding more aggressively to their dolls ??

Again Dear God please forgive me for having an opinion!

Besame take your blinkers off and read my post again! I never said playing was meaningless! I said that Role playing is a vital part of a child's development. I also said that children learn life skills - by mimicking the adults around them. I think both statements support the points you are trying to make!

I have to go but I'll post more on the comments I don't support later!:smiley20:

nothin personal sweetie, just tryin to keep the peace- we're all m8s here & everyone has something to say... & being human nature we all value our opinions & each believe ourselves to be 'enlightened' & intelligent...unfortunately this can lead to differences of opinion & that is COOL as long as we dont take personal offence...i certainly dont believe anyone on this site means to be personal OR abusive & if they do they have no place here...so...smile & keep postin your thought provoking, tongue twisting & mind bending posts! I LOVE 'em! Its like mental arithmetic for my head!:smiley29:

Actually, although I do not have a degree in psychology, I am a qualified Montessori teacher and touching on psychology (particularly developmental) was a part of my course! I have also read various books on child psychology to help me better understand the children I work with everyday! I have worked in a variety of schools, namely Montessori, Traditional Pre-school and a traditional Primary school. I have also done a fair bit of nannying both full time for babies and toddlers as well as part time for older children and teenagers once my Montessori teaching hours are over everyday. Does your job enable you, as well as expect you, to observe children both in play and at work on a daily basis? I'm very interested to know what qualification you have in child education that makes YOU the expert on it? Perhaps you based your thesis on this very subject? (And I don't wish to come across as at all smug with this - I am interested)

But all of that aside remind what we were arguing about in the first place? Oh yes, Barbie's being a cause of teenage pregnancies! Who says boys aren't allowed to play with Barbies? Did someone pass a law that I am unaware of? Maybe this is why teenage boys don't fall pregnant ;o) The little boy I look after played with Barbies with his sister just as much as they played with him with his cars! The little boys in the Traditional pre-school a i worked at were just as inclined to make beds for the dolls out of chairs as the girls were! I have an adorable video of three children playing with a doll and taking on the rolls of The Mummy, the Sister and the Dragon! I'm sure you can guess who the boy was - he just played with doll in a different way! (Needless to say he was the Dragon protecting the baby!)
Montessori schools do not have traditional toys like dolls but every "toy" in the classroom is designed to help the child teach himself a life skill of one description or another. All the "toys' are wooden (where possible) making them longer lasting and in most cases turns the classroom into a mini- world where everything is child sized, helping their little bodies and fingers negotiate the whole learning process a little easier. But as a result they are VERY expensive. Wooden toys are not cheap anywhere you go and your average family could not afford to buy them.

As for Ronald Bates I'm sure that if I dug around a little bit I could find research that discredits his findings! If you know so much about psychology I'm sure you'll agree that psychological research very rarely provides a straightforward answer to anything and hardly any research is ever just an open and shut case! How could it be?

As for the bobo experiment I do believe my exact words were "It's how all children learn life skills - by mimicking the adults around them."

And finally - how many plastic Barbie-esque dolls did you have as a small girl? I had one - she was wedding Barbie and I hardly played with her. I preffered my BABY DOLLS! Barbie wasn't a baby and i couldn't feed her, cradle her or strap her to my back whilst I helped my nanny hang up the washing!

The defense rests!
