Think you fellas should have specified not to repeat otherwise we goin to be goin round in circles! Are we talkin about Zim BORN or Zim REPs? Think that there needs to be a distinction cos if Zim BORN, there are HEAPS of SA, UK & even US athletes with Zim links...

Rugby- Ian MacIntosh (Rhodesia, Sharks & Boks coach)
- Ian Robertson (Rhodesia, Natal & Bok player)
- Gary Teichmann (Sharks & Bok capt)
- Bob Skinstadt (WP, Stormers & Bok capt)
2004/5 Zim U19 Rugby team (qualified & played in U19 World cup 2005)

Cricket- Graeme Hick (Zim & England)
- Peter Pollock (Rhodesia & SA Cricket)

Iron Man- Forget her name now but there's a Zim born lady who is a LEGEND & represents the states now...

Bowls- Forget her name, but there's a blind lady (Connie something or other i THINK?) who KICKED A:smiley35:ss at world games in the 90s...

Athletics- Philemon Harineki (ex AW boy who used to run LOooooooooong distance & KICK A:smiley35:SS at the stadium (Harare Boys Schools Athletics- remember those days fellas...:smiley36: ) anyway he changed his name to Haneck & started running for Sweden/ Finland because they didnt tax him! (Good on him- decided that Bob & the greedy Zanu PF boys wouldnt share in his hard earned cash!)

...shew...havin a brain explosion!:smiley29:

Right, lets start trying to get this down to ten nominations. Thoughts?

biffon
08-29-2006, 12:59 AM
ok we need to look at credentials.. have a sliding scale
eg:
world champion/s =10pts
Olympic medal =9pts
commonwealth medal =8pts
top ten ranking =7pts
winner of major comp =7pts (including tests & tournaments)
International representation =7pts
zimbabwean representation = 5pts

any others to add??

biffon

if more than one credential is valid the top scoring one is used.

Shayne

Nice Biffon. I think we can get a decent top ten using your sliding scale.

i'll work it out & post later

ok i have wittled it down a bit:
10Nick Price (golf World No1)

10Byron Black (tennis World No1 doubles)
10Kirsty Coventry -(Swimming olympic gold)
9Womens Hockey Team - (Olympic gold 1980)
9langton schoolboy tinago -(boxing commonwealth lightweight)
8Evan Stewart (Diving - Commonwealth gold)
8Mark McNulty (golf 2 time PGA comp winner)
7Wayne Black (tennis 4 grandslam doubles titles)

7Peter Pollock (Rhodesia & SA Cricket)
7Debbie Jeans (judo 3 time all-afric champ)
7Warren Thorn (all african 250cc moto-x champ)

of the sevens we need to get two clear standouts..

Shayne
08-29-2006, 04:21 AM
For me it would Debbie Jeans, Wayne Black and Kevin Ullyet. they are more Zimbabwean than the rest. Thoughts?

biffon
08-29-2006, 05:05 AM
i would rate Cara above Kevin as she has 4 titles and he only has three
Cara was also wimbledon junior singles champion
I don't know Debbies achievments but all i can find on her is that she was all africa champ... is that enough to qualify?

Shayne

I suppose the question we have to ask ourselves is "who has put Zimbabwe on the map?" We could argue the BRuce Groblelar and Peter Ndolvu achieved this yet the Womens Hockey Team of 1980 didnt yet they are number 5 on the list.

biffon
08-29-2006, 06:10 AM
hmmm yeah well they are a bit of a conundrum....
the object is to find the most influential and famous sportsperson/team so ok lets leave off the womens hockey team, Evan Stewart and langton tinago as hell i dont even know who he was..
add Peter, Bruce and kevin

FerrariSucks
08-29-2006, 08:46 PM
In order Nick Price, Byron Black and Bruce G/Peter Ndlovu as they have all inspired youngsters to achieve more

biffon
08-30-2006, 12:50 AM
