I can count HEAPS of great characters among my mates & acquaintances that are ex Falcon...Sal, i hope that comment wasnt directed at me baby? (i thought you were innocent until you proved yourself guilty remember?) back to Falcon ppl...met a dude at a dinner in Jhb last yr with his boyfriend (yes you read right)..nice fella, i forget his name now...anyway, when i was introduced to him as "another fellow Zimbo" he asked what school i went to (as you do on these occasions- oddly enough this is pretty important onn the social scale, even as our nation has scattered) so i said 'St John's" to which he replied..."Oh you went to the queer school" & his boyfriend, quick as a whip retorted "thats rich coming from you...at least he's STILL straight & not a flaming queer like you!" The only reason the balmy Jobug evening air was spared from being rent apart by DERISIVE laughter is that we were all too shocked & trying to be PC to let instinct takle over...
anyway...Reg Querl (ex Peterhouse housemaster & sprts coach) is now headmaster at Falcon...i'm surprised the school has managed to survive the current crisis in Zim..in fact, i'm surprised ANY pvt schools have survived this long....ST John's as a DAY school will be charging Z$56 mill this term (with likely cost of living adjustments in the 2nd & 3rd terms respectively) so i'd HATE to even think what boarding schools are charging...imagine being in Zim with kids of school going age?

Its amazing how the schools survive. Falcon are about to build a modern gym, with equipment sent from the USA. The old boy network is incredible, including a dinner at the House of Commons here in London.I was in the same dorm as Chesney Middleton.

Yah. Schools survive by the old boy network and PTA's (ie people putting in more work for the love of the school) PE is a prime example of this. They have a massive infrastructure regarding old boy network. ( So does Saints/Peterhouse and Falcon) I guess to be honest this is why there was a lot of animosity when St Johns came into being. Pretty much seen as the rich boys trying to buy history and acclaim with money. (maybe a jealousy thing over the money).
P.s Also remember watching Streak at Falcon from the sidelines as a lightie. He was a unit at nos 15 and :smiley35: ing terrifying to watch bowl. Used to love travelling to falcon, besides the huge pissup on the train and shenanigans, they had the best food on Sat (steak and chips I think, correct me if I'm wrong) Also remember when Saints 1st XV beat them in '89' the whole school went silent at tea as their disgraced team entered the food hall post game. :smiley35: Saints Okes could'nt get on the bus fast enough to get to 'skies' after that. We thought we were going to get lynched! Ha ha

Hello? Trying to understand this, their wives/relations aren't allowed to join in the conversation? Is this an ageist or sexist problem?

Do you know Rory Girdler-brown then? He's in New Zealand now, somewhere near Aukland. He seems to be doing well.

Cant believe I used to panel the crap out of the falcon girls hockey teams. Richard Godden was the captain and then I think he made head girl in 1992 or there abouts. Did Falcon do A's in 7 or 8 years, cant remember.

My grand son is ex Falcon, and an excelent example of the school. Recently was accepted into the British Royal Marines as an recruit, enjoying it. Good traing in advance has helped immensley.
A proud granddad... :smiley2:

Dont blame yourself - Plumtree came a close second from the bottom after Gifford.. As for Hockey for you to play on grass was like being in heaven!!! And i heard plumtree seniors used to re-write ZJC's instead of those exams we called 'A' levels...........
