Ok guys lets have some stories of what you had to endure while at school
Most memorable for me :-
During building of the squash courts at shed they had to destroy a rather large boulder, the brainiac in charge decided to blow it up!
anyway the boulder was destroyed but the side effects were rather funny, the whole school was showered with fist sized rocks! The swimming pool had several million rock shards displaced into it, holes were put in windows & roofs (we even found several rock shardson the cricket field nearly 500m away)
anywayas a form ofpunishment some senior came up with the bright idea toget naughty/random juniors to collect the rocks from the pool
in frigging 2 deg C temperatures in the middle of JUNE!!!
in the end it was all pointless cause the blast had cracked the pool and it had to be drained anyway - not HAPppy!!

At St John's, if a non 1st game (1st/2nd XVrugby)playerwalked on the 1st team field without permission, they were made to crawl around the entire field on hands & knees, with their nose on the white lines...Steve MacDonald was famous for carrying this one out in our last yr at school...used to drive parents MAD STILL DOES, cos the punishment is still administered to this day... well, it certainly was still being done in 2003 when i was 1st XV coach there...

of the more painful initiations my year had done to us was the gauntlet...
we individually had to run down the 3rd form dorm corridor and we were beaten with soap in socks, rugby boots, brooms, buckets, cupboard doors....
was not pretty.
in fact i seem to remember spaniel being one of the boys pounding us!!

When i was a 'stooge' in one of the boys hostelsat Kingswood College in the E. Cape, i used to make the okes do dress parade & 'fatigues' from 2am-6am for a week...No. 1s, rugger, cricket, athletics, swimming, tennis/squashkit, school kit/ no. 2s, 3-5 sets of civvies- they had to come to the quad outside my room & stand as if on parade every 6 mins in whatever of the above kit i chose for them to go put on (when i was a student, those were my most productive hours academically, so it was no stress for me...) followed by 'fatigues'...an hour of bootcamp style drills, on the field nearby & ended it off with a length of field race where they had to roll on the dew/ frost encrusted grass in their speedos...then sit in silence for 45mins before rising bell at 6am with the grassy itch....SHIT I WAS A BASTARD!

Vale seemed more strict about initiations, so seniors had to do the ceremonies on away trips.
Form 1 student did however have to have a big sign around there neck with their name on it and have to carry a PET ROCK where ever they went.

yeah we also had "shine parades" in Nyakambiri house it was their staple diet!, i think i was only ever in one...
the shitty thing was when we reached form 4 they introduced a seperate Junior house, seperated the sprogs from the rest of the school so we couldnt bully them... it was a good idea but we of course felt robbed of a tradition that we had to endure but couldnt pass on...

at vale the un14 waterpolo team would be initiated on there first trip back from lomagundi, we were made to push a bottle cap along the floor length of the bus with your nose and everytime you nose came of the cap you got smacks on the back off the head, everyone came out with cuts on there nose from hitting the caps...

Well the girls at shed had a shit time. My worst manual labours were raking up all the grass on the cricket fields after it had been mowed - by hand. That took about 5 hours. And being at the farm at 430 in the morning to shovel all the shit out the pig stys before school started! If you didn't finish in time for breakfast - tough luck you went without!
Or once a girl talked during grace so as a punishment we ALL had to line up outside the hall in complete silence at 4am and wait for breakfast at 630/700 (depending what session you ate in) - for an entire week in the middle of f***ing winter!
Then of course there were the hours wasted writing out sentences like
"I should not be loquacious during evening prep sessions but rather cogitate of what could happen as a punishment" 1000 times!
I'd rather someone had clouted me around the back of the head a few times instead!

I Remember end of term Manual Labour, instead of classes we were all sent to work in the fields how wrong was that!!, cant remember what we were supposed to be doing there, taking out rocks or weeding or something, we never did though, just stuffed around... the smokers would sneak off into the rocks for a few, the rest played cricket or touch rugby or something... was great!
Weeding the cricket pitches was a royal pain in my arse! i hated that , fortunatley i was only ever on manual labour, like twice.

haha i bunked most manuels and got whipped for them instead or if certain feds were taking it i would go into the fed study and get a hiding from them then go home, haha problem was they were all pussy's at giving out beatings....

I think I am the only girl at Convent who ever got wacked. I was put on manual labour and it was on Saturday and I had hockey matches on Saturdays. There was no getting out of being punished so I asked for wacks instead of doing the manual labour and missing my hockey match. So Sister Gundula gave me 3 wacks. 2 minutes of a sore arse is better than missing a hockey match and doing 3 hours of weeding a field or some sort of bullshit.
I was also initiated at 15 years old when I made the 1st team hockey. On the way to some hockey tournament on the train to Bulawayo. It stops a dozen times in the night. Freshmeat to the team were made to stip down to nothing and stand on the steel crappy train toilet in our cabin with windows fully open at one of the stops. Needless to say I never did it and told the senors to "f" off. I knew they needed me on the team too badly to know they'd actually make me do it. And I wasn't that scared of them anyway.
As a senior I never initiated any of the girls on a team or anything, they are much more strict about that kind of stuff at a girls school.

We had so many goddam priveledges at saints it was impossible not to get into trouble evryday in fms 1 & 2. favorite punishment by the seniors-Space invaders- making you do star jump up and down the parapet with all your other mates while the senior tried to get hit a tennis ball at you as hard as he could. You had to make the noises too bleeping all the time and then dying when hit. :smiley35: ing funny looking back but hurt like hell!:smiley36:

first week of form 1 for me was the worst for abuse... man things they got away with back then that would be a serious nono now. :D
loking back it was all good semi-harmless fun for most involved, a few kids took it the wrong way and they were usually the ones singled out for the rest of their stay in high school.. you know the ones i mean! :D
Kirsty

Shit, I'm so glad I am not a guy.
I don't know if I could handle that abuse without loosing my temper and attaking some senior fully knowing I'd get my arse kicked even worse. But it would be worth it, getting a few feeble punches in.
Soooooo glad I am a girl.

For form one in PE the intiation was a written bloody test on the school history and if flunked out the fed made sure you were on manual for the whole term, and the used to come to your class during the last lesson to get your shoes or back so you couldnt leg it.
They also used pick up 5 fof us litties every morning to clean there study, so if you where the unlucky one walkin in to school 30 mins early you got nabed!!!
didnt someone at shed super glue someones eyes closed? my older bro told me something about that????

The trunk on the railway didn't happen at Shed - the rumour at Shed was that it happened at Peterhouse, Gundi, Eaglesvale, Falcon........! Depends who you were talking to! I don't think it was true!
Guys also used to say that at Falcon they'd lock you in your trunk and throw it down the stairs!

Trunk on the railway i dont think happened at vale nor did soggy biscits, but wasnt it at plum tree where someone died of heart attack because of a prank gone wrong with the track, and the soggy bisc must of started somewhere otherwise there wouldnt be rumors it must of been at a all boys school or in the bush somewhere where there was fuck all to do.

When i was at Vale in form 3, Mrs. Edwards threw a blackboard duster at me and squared me straight on the crust of my head. So i left it and the next day a senior caught wind of what happened, so he ordered me to get revenge, and gave me a stink bomb to let off in her door way as i left.
So after class i made an effort to get to the doorway as fast as possible, i was the first one out, on exiting the room i dropped the bomb and looked behind me as people stood all over it, shattering it into complete pandamonium, feeling a sense of closure i turned my head to walk away and Bousfield was standing right there and saw the whole thing, damn he was pissed and when that vein popped up on his head i knew pain was not far behind. After 6 swings of the arm i was almost a paraplegic! To this day i don't regret doing that, as long as 'she' had a few hours of discomfort!!!

Before coming back to Zim, I did a stint of schooling in South Africa - Nigel High School! Man, the Saffas really laid it on at that time. We also had the thing of carrying a sign on a board around our necks with name, shoe size, favourite colour, D.O.B., etc ... any senior who didn't like what "we liked" would initiate us in one way or another.
I was made to "bonk a tree" until it moaned! Well, bang went my break time. All because my D.O.B. fell on the same day as some senior.
We had assembly every morning, and had to be seated at least 20 minutes before the teachers arrived. A perfect time for the seniors to make a mockery of us. They would pick on a junior or two, make them stand on stage in front of the whole school and do some silly things ... rap Baa-Baa Black Sheep, bark at the pedestal until it barked back. Most of the time we were bombarded with acorns during the performance.
This lasted about 3-months, at the end of which we had to do a concert for students, teachers and parents alike. After that, we were untouchable ... well, sort of. They still held the ceremonial Matric Line to punish the "wrong doers" ... two lines were formed on either side, with the junior made to run down the line whilst they laid in with fists and boot.
