A group of Zimboswere chattingin Capetown about the fact that 99.999999999 recurring % of zimbos from ALL economic, religious & ethnic backgrounds had at least ONE item of copper in their home...a fire guard, a clock or "I love Zim/ Rhodesia" etc type artifact in their home...anyone remember what you had in your home?

Ours was a Zim shaped copper shield with engraved/painted info (Vic Falls had the falls logo, Kariba had a tigerfish & the Dam etc) http://zimbo.bounceme.net/Forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

i'd have to say that you will have to refer to these copper lovers as Rhodies man.

zimbo's proper may have seen these artifacts in their parents or grandparents homes but i doubt anyone here has bought one themselves.

my parents had a copper map with the wartime "operations" labelled on them

what were they?

ah yes Thrasher, Hurricane ,Repulse, Tangent, Splinter and Grapple

Into the sports memorabillia- got signed shirts from John 'the king' Eals as well as Zim suns shirts from the lads ('03) etc

True and interesting story........

A Greek guy was moving toAthens just after independence andcame up with aningenius way of smuggling US dollars out ofthe country. He went toa coppershop inHarare to order a fireguard as a gift for his sister - as they did overseas deliveries. He told the guy he wanted to take two samples home so that his wife could help to make the final decision. When he got home he took the backing off the one and filled it with about 4 thousand US. When he got back to the showroom the following dayhe toldsalesman which one he had decided onand had them send it off. A few weeks later it arrived in Athens and his sister went to take the money out but it was not there. The guy went screaming round to the showroom to find out what had happened. The manager of the shop told him that the fireguard they had sent went directly from the factory as it was already packaged up and the one he had taken home was just the showroom display. The Greek asked if he could please purchase that one but unfortunately it had been sold a few days earlier as it was a very popular model and they had had no others in stock!

Somebody out there has a very valuable fireguard!
