We used our mamba's to get across to Oz in 2001 then took out citizenship and just let other run out. We haven't been back as yet but I'd love to visit the few people we know still there and go to Kariba again.....just love Kariba!!!
I left originally in 2000 with my now ex husband and son, went back in 2001 as got divorced and wanted to go back to family. I then left again last year (2006) november, after finding out my family had lost their farm, so my whole family have left now, i dont see myself ever going back except for holidays. Its sad cause it a great place if you can get past the problems

and who was that?
I left in May 1996. Went back every 12 - 18 months while I was living in the UK. Not been "home" since 2004, and probably won't ever again as my parents and other family is finally convinced to come over to NZ.
New Zealand feels like home now anyway!

Never really left - mentally. Physically left in 1980, many visits back for short periods. Lost residents rights as had been out the country 3 years so its a question of dodging immigration department. Last visit 2005 for Goddaughters wedding. Family living all over the world. Few friends left -they have my utmost respect and admiration.

And here I am the GRAND Father of you all. I left in 1965. I willing to bet that the likes many of you, I saw the very best of Rhodesia. Man when I crossed the Beit bridge I never ever dreamt the country would end up as is. But here I am in Canada, being back once then that too was a long time ago.
I cry my heart out if I went courting on the Kopje again, just looking over the city and remembering what it use to be. Am I wrong in thinking such.

i feel the same way. i am just scouting Australia for a bit, and go back to zim very often, almost half the time. and i will move back some time. its a lot to put up with, but worth it to live with Zimbo's, there are no other people like us and i dont like the idea of us all getting split up and diluted if you know what i mean.. i dont want my children growing up as Australians.
zimajays
05-19-2007, 02:09 PM
thats the snag - kids. If we hadn't had Ryan we would still be there in Zim. But when you got this little life the depends on you completely, you gotta do what is best for your kids, as opposed you!
barto11
05-19-2007, 09:19 PM
i dont wont my kids(when they come along) to grow up in the uk...they are too smothered and protected, if they get one little scratch they need to go and get stiches...ridiculous...i want mine to grow in zim(or maybe sa) where they can atleast play outdoors and be kids, not stuck up inside with computers and tvs...

05-20-2007, 08:22 AM
thats exactly what i was saying. it makes sense to me. also exposing them to the harsh part of the world, where the average person is poor, and doesn't have health insurance, a job, or even a house will make them appreciate the life they have.
zimajays
05-20-2007, 09:11 AM
yeh thats all well and good .... BUT if you are in Zim in an average job where they will pay for your schooling and health insurance, but there is no schools for your kid to go to (coz every one has left the country and schools are closing left right and center) and the medical is always cash first (and you don't have that sort of money coz savings don't exsisit there) then what? Before I left Zim in 05 I was the bursar of Bryden in chegutu, the private schools had just won thier court case to be able to charged what they thought the schoold fees should be, but now the goverment is controlling that as well, which means the schools are dieing a slow and painful death. And even if you do get them through junior and senior school, how the hell do you afford to pay for them to go Uni? My folks left 5 yrs before me with my bros, and I was a die hard 'I'm never gonna leave the country of my birth etc etc', but when Ryan came along (who cost 10mill then to have and we were on CIMAS but cash first and we were only earning 7mill between us!) we had had enough!
Why we left anyway.

Mentally, Physically, Morally etc etc etc left in 1990. After 6months here, tore up my return ticket and have Never Returned !! Dont intend to either, lots more places in the world to still visit / live.
East Timor is the next place on my to do list i think :whistling: or China. Tough choice though, excellent scuba in the 1st place and excellent women in the 2nd ......... :smiley9:
