Watched the spectacular finish to a really exciting cricket game between SA and Sri Lanka this morning. Malenga star bowler of the match taking 4 wickets in quick succession is a great player but watching his bowling action made me think i was watching Baseball. Just wanted to know what all the other fundis think?

Is he a thrower or Bowler?

I have a similar question except it involves spitting vs swallowing and has 3 lesbians in it.

Malinga is a bowler although its not aesthetically pleasing. If you differ from the norm people get suspicious but i think he is just doing what feels comfortable and works.

lol.
I suspect that you might be thinking about snowballing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowballing_(sexual_practice)) and not bowling. But that is an entirely different story...

Reluctantly, I'd have to agree that he is a bowler.

Saying that, I also think that he's treading a very fine line.

What happens if his arm gets tired or injured? Will he revert to some sort of throwing action?

He does have a very suspect action but no one has made him go through an examination and tests of his action like Muralitharin (sp)

Isn't he the guy they did all those scientific tests on to ascertain if he was bowling correctly? It turned out he has a very slight deformation of his elbow which make it seem like he's lobbing the ball when in actual fact it's a legal 'bowl'.

2000 code: Law 24.3 - A ball is fairly delivered in respect of the arm if, once the bowler's arm has reached the level of the shoulder in the delivery swing, the elbow joint is not straightened partially or completely from that point until the ball has left the hand. This definition shall not debar a bowler from flexing or rotating the wrist in the delivery swing.

that would be Muralitharin
he chucks because he uses a bent elbow. however he has got around that because he does not straighten it during his action and therefore is working around the laws a bit

this guy has a suspect action because his arm comes across sideways, but it does not bend at the elbow and therefore again is working around the rules - looks fracking painful if you ask me!!!

Dont worry Nyala, I cant even prounounce that name! lol
I asked this question a while back after watching their game with Pakistan, I am still convinced it is a throw! Ferrarisucks put me right though.

He can bowl under arm and it would still be legal. I think they gave it a slight degree to which the elbow can be bent.

the dude does bowl weirdly though! everytime i watch it i have to admit i do laugh. no wonder there was four wickets with four balls, watching the way that dude bowls would put any batsman off at the crease.

Yeah I admit. Looks like he is going down to tie his shoes and then suddenly launchs this missle at you. Silly South Africans fell for the same trick fours times.

Suprised Shayne could bowl between texting.

Personally I would say that I don't like it, but then I'm biased.
Anything that will knock Shayne Warne off his pedestle, I'll welcome, however ...

watching the way that dude bowls would put any batsman off at the crease.

I was thinking the same - the way his left arm swings round in front of his bowling arm, you would think he was chucking the ball at you with that arm first.

(I realise that what I just wrote makes zilch sense at all. It's kinda hard to explain what I mean... I'd have to demonstrate :smiley36: )

I have to say in my eye's it's throwing and agree there are other "bowlers" out there including a zimbo with the same action, there is some rule that states the arm has to be 15 degrees of top centre which they all fall into, it doesn't say his body has to be straight so bent over at the hip at 90 degrees he has the same action of a baseball pitcher... so i'd say he is a pitcher not a bowler....

there is not rule to say the arm needs to be vertical only that it should not bend at the elbow more than 15 deg.
that is why the Aussies are hated by NZ so much, because they won a series by bowling underarmed, the last ball of the last game with 3 runs for NZ to win, :D :D

therefor Malinga has a perfectly legitimate action.... However i do think it gives him a big advantage as the ball is coming into the blockhole from a different angle and of course the batsman is going to have trouble reading it.. add that fact that its coming at him at 150kms an hour doesnt leave him much time to react!
