View Full Version : Support the 'Tahs!

I've lost count of the PM's that I've got since joining this board asking me to pass on messages of support and praise for the Waratahs in this years Super14. The common theme with these PM's is people wanting to know what they can do to help the 'Tahs win their first Super14 Trophy.

You'll all be happy to know that I've found a quick and easy way for you all to achieve this and more. Whenever you have a good thought about the 'Tahs simply post it in this thread! Not only will this provide an outlet for your 'Tah praise, but it will also gift me some points which you can rest assured will duly be used to back the 'Tahs through vBookie.

I'll start... last night I had a dream about the Super14 final - coincidentally a Crusaders/Waratahs rematch, but this time at Stadium Australia.

The scores were level at 34 all with 2 minutes to go, and the Crusaders have the ball on the 'Tahs 5 metre line. Carter is playing scrum half for some reason, and services the ball close on the blind-side to McCaw.

Phil Waugh comes out of no-where and puts in a huge tackle on McCaw, and the ball pops out 3 metres in the air. Peter Hewatt jumps over Phil Waugh and the unconscious form of McCaw and plucks the ball out of the air, then twists in the air and fires a 20m pass to Sam Norton-Knight on the right wing.

SNK races to the halfway line, but is chased down by Rico Gear. Once SNK has Gear committed he puts in a pass to Tuquiri who sprints off for the remaining 40 metres, palming off Leon MacDonald to score a try just as the full time siren sounds.

As the oldest Union in the Southern Hemisphere, it's kind of hard to understand why they chose the state's flower as their symbol rather than something tough like one of our many native animals... I think the NSW Goanna's would be a suitably tough animal but Goanna's are a pain in the arse so the waratah it is.

Speaking of crap mascots, a spingbok is the gayest bouncing T-Bone I've ever seen, and wtf is a 'red'. And I just found out that the Zimbabwe national team is called the Cheetahs.. very original!

The sables.

Moses

excuse my ignorance, but what's a sable.. should I be scared of one, and more importantly is a sable's diet involve Waratahs?

Shayne

Sables are the Zimbabwe National side. They are not in the Super 14.

Sables have a mean pair of horns and are wild. So yes, be scared.

I hear they're allergic to Waratahs - makes them break out in a rash and drop the ball.....

Adam

But the Tah's will be dropping more than 1 ball though.

Mate a 'bok is STILL better than a flower...& the Zim team is actually called the Sables...the 7s team is the Cheetahs...typical sky blue supporter...no facts, just misguided passion!:smiley36:

Cheers TiGeR, I now know what a Sable is.. looks like it'd go pretty well with Mrs Balls Chilli Chutney.

Will the Zim Cheaters be coming out for the 7's comp at the Melbourne Commenwealth games next month?

No. Zimbabwe has been booted out of the Commonwealth for Mugabe's regime and human right abuses.

Wallabies stalwart David Lyons is set to be a shock omission from the NSW starting line-up this weekend, with Stephen Hoiles to take the No.8 jersey. The selection will be a huge fillip for Hoiles, because the match is against one of the most robust forward packs in the competition. Last year, Hoiles was overlooked for Elsom at blindside when coach Ewen McKenzie was looking for grunt, so the chance to prove himself against the hard-running, hard-tackling Bulls in his preferred No.8 role is a large stride forward.

The move could also be a pointer to how NSW want to play the game, with Hoiles's ability to run wide and link with the back line sure to be a factor in stretching the Bulls defence and uncovering some of the holes that the Brumbies exposed last weekend.

For Lyons, the move to the reserves seemed to fire him up at training, and his impact late in the game could be crucial.

LIKELY NSW TEAM: Sam Norton-Knight; Peter Hewat, Morgan Turinui, Shaun Berne, Lote Tuqiri; Daniel Halangahu, Chris Whitaker; Stephen Hoiles, Phil Waugh, Rocky Elsom, Dan Vickerman, Al Kanaar, Al Baxter, Adam Freier, Matt Dunning. Reserves: Tu Polota-Nau, B Robinson, W Caldwell, D Lyons, W Palu, B Sheehan, B Jacobs.

Scored in the dying seconds. Brumbies have the mental capacity thats why they just about always beat the "T'arse", they keep playing to the final whistle.

shame, sounds like it was a pretty boring game also. I missed it cause I was at a wedding in the Blue Mountains, but should see a replay soon..

Very one sided game. The T'Arse had no idea what they were trying to acheive either in the forwards or the back line. Bulls dominated lines outs and even the breakdown and took their opportunities (too many penalties conceded). Anyway I would boast but it was about the only pick I got right.

Moses

we'll be back next week, and I should be there to see it live.. my first Super14 game so very excited.

Did anyone see that pass from Sam Norton-Knight? Fuck me that was good!

Aboriginal
02-28-2006, 05:28 AM
Yah reckon Sam NK decent player. don't rate your pivot though, too inexperienced. T'Arse going to struggle this week too I think. Lost a few crucial players in the forwards and backs (better hope Rogers is back). The Sharks are no mugs as they have shown against some quality opposition this weekend losing by only 2 pts with only 30% possession. Hope you are watching at the SFS.. much closer better atmosphere. Telstra stadium sucks. Too far from field and city! Please don't let that plastic man Percy score! :smiley35: that will be embarrassing

Moses
02-28-2006, 06:48 AM
true, having Vickerman back would be awesome... as would Rogers slotting in to 10. I thought Daniel Halangahu (http://www.waratahs.com.au/HSBCWaratahs/PlayerProfiles/DanielHalangahu.aspx) has played pretty well but you're right in that he needs more experience and a fucking haircut. Shaun Berne is another option here, and he's done pretty well at 10 in the past.

The Sharks will be a good challenge, especially as my other half supports them :) Prince Percy will probably score, if not points on the ball then a sharks girl after the match!

The game is at Aussie Stadium - next door to the SCG.

thought your boys were good y/day...bit concerned that despite all that posession, territory & go forward, they didnt really DOMINATE the cats...physically, or otherwise...against quality opposition, they will struggle a bit if they cant take on the bottom feeders of the tournament & "own them"...

biffon
03-11-2006, 06:40 AM

thats a "bend over while i ram you up the backside" kind of win

03-11-2006, 07:03 AM
Bro, i'm a coach & i look at quality of performance...'tahs owned the scoresheet no doubt, but they werent as dominant in the quality of performance as they should/ could have been..IMHO...if i'm going to poke a team in the eye on home ground, i want to do it PROPERLY...leave NO doubt whatsoever that i am a contender & that i have the quality to do the job against all comers...i cant see this 'tahs team beating the 'saders at home or away in the final...they will struggle against the chiefs, the 'canes & the brumbies unless they start firing on ALL cylinders...

biffon
03-11-2006, 07:29 AM
so what youre saying is that score line is an indication that the Cats were absolutely Shyte and should go back to knitting?
