So I see that rugby is going to be included as a sport for the 2011 Pan America Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

I'm in two minds about this one.

One one hand I'm pleased that something like this can only raise the profile of the game.

On the other, how much more rugby can the players take? How will it impact on other rugby competitions or tournaments?

Thoughts?

I think that they should play sevens in the Olympics, you would get a different player base (so that the Union players don't burn out) and the profile of Sevens may be raised. :smiley20:

I don't think we can handle any more rugby... in terms of the players and the quality - rather than try to promote the game by playing it to death, they should try other medthods, like make rugby compulsory in schools, outlawing football, diverting the national defense budget to rugby and turning ex-players into country leaders...:smiley36:

Super 14 shouldn't be every year. Once every two years with perhaps an alternating north vs south or global provincial comp thrown in. No Super 14 or Tri Nations in a world cup year either.

We're overloaded!!!!

thats a tough one shayne... i as a fan would not be happy to wait two years to see top quality club rugby on my doorstep... i think tri-nations should be every two years though... that way it opens up for more one-off test matches against other emerging powers like Argentina, Canada, USA and Italy which can only be good for the game!

i dont think making the s14 every 2 years would be viable for the players, as it is the job...but agree on the tri-nations every 2 years, it would mean more to players that win...and as biff said it will open the door for the 2nd tier nations to play more rugby against the top sides...it would also mean that internationals will be able to play for their home provinces more often(cc, airnz cup) which will give players from lesser unions a chance to test their skills against the better players...

i am all for 7s being used in the olympics...i think 7s as a foundation for the 15 a-side game is good thing...and any side can beat anyone on any given day...making it more competitive
