Go on guys, shoot me down in flames if you like for the title of my thread, but right now my love for Zimbabwe and anything associated with its third world incompetancies has gone out the window along with my common sense.

My mum was readmitted to hospital last night after being let go after a day in there on Sunday with no improvement to her condition. She has been violently ill for 4 days solidly now.

She is in a ward where theft is rife, things disappear when she blinks, her doctor does not know what tests have been done on her already, failed to get her to a scan that was supposedly meant to happen this afternoon - by 5 this afternoon she was still sitting around with an empty drip that was attached this morning and now she is having to request her own medication to stop the violent painful retching... she can't even look at food and spends most of the time attached to the toilet anyway and they are doing nothing to help her.

My heart goes out to anybody that is struggling there at the moment, but right now all I can think about is the fact that my parents are alone and I am far away from being by their side while they battle the odds.

You rant away all you like. Wishing your mum a speedy recovery and hope she gets home soon. It is difficult when you are so far away ....

GF are your folks on medical aid? which hospital is she in? St Annes is great or at least it was when my aunt (ok close family friend but she's like a second mom) was working there and she still gives the nurses shit...

Can promise anything but i can try and get word to her to see if she can help.

GF...you let rip!! We've all experienced the incompetencies of the so-called Medical Professionals in Zim and know exactly where you're coming from. Our very best wishes for your Mom.

GF - vent off all the steam you want.

I know that you don't hate Zimbabwe, I know you just hate what it has become.

Let us know if there is anything any or us can do to help.

Thanks for your votes of confidence everyone. I have calmed down a bit since I typed the original post.

5 days on and she is still being violently ill in hospital (Mater Dei in Bulawayo) - she gets a couple of test results today, so waiting to hear what those come up with.

In the meantime my dad has spoken to a golfing friend of hers and those who were at a meeting at the Bulawayo Golf Club on Thursday have been very ill as well (none that we know of in hospital though). It seems that the borehole water used there is contaminated (sewerage leaks on the grounds). I don't know what the treatment for extreme poisoning is, if that is what it is... I just hope that they are able to fix her soon.

Still finding it very hard being so far away though.

Sounds like a good dose of botulism. I am surprised it's the Mater Dei, they had a great reputation. My dad was admitted there and they were wonderful, mind you he had the assistance of a McMillan Nurse, perhaps that helped.
