Well no, Uncle Gordon has taken a positive stance and has refused to attend the upcoming summit in lisbon.

I think e-mails of votes of confidence would be in order.

Thank you for this link. A lot of pressure has been put on the UK government from various groups, I have been actively writing to/signing petitions for years. Every little helps. Here is a copy of my message to Gordon Brown submitted via the site you posted. I have decided to broach the subject of ex-british pensioners in this instance.

Dear Mr. Brown,
I am writing with regards to the dire situation in Zimbabwe. I appreciate you may feel that this is an African problem that should be resolved by African nations, on on the whole I agree with these sentiments. However, I am writing with regards to the large numbers of Ex-British citizens who were forced to hand in their British Passports and take out Zimbabwe Passport in order to remain in Zimbabwe. They have been denied re-patriation back to England and have no-where else to go. The majority of these people fought in WW2 for Britian and have at some stage, lived and contributed to Britain. They have lost their pensions and are now destitute. All means of sending money to them from abroad have been stopped by the Zimbabwe Government. Sending money is now futile as there are no supplies in the shops and what little is available on the black market is so expensive they cannot afford to purchase goods.
ITV 1 recently aired a comprehensive news report on the dire situation in Zimbabwe. I saw your response to this new report and would say that the British Governement has been aware of the situation for many years and has been saying that they are concerned - however, being concerned is not enough.
I appreciate your stance against Mugabe but would ask if further santions are going to improve the lifes of these pensioners who have no-one but a few charities to rely on.
Surely the international community are able to provide a solution to the situation in Zimabwe or at least put pressure on the other African countries to remove Mugabe and his corrupt Government.

I put this message under the International Affairs in category.

That is brilliant - Thank you Chick - I used the International Affairs category as well and mine was pretty much the same - about ex- british people in Zim etc ...

Lol, was it, great minds think alike. I thought I would go in on that subject because they should be concerned about British folks, also I am active in a charity that looks after the pensioners...... having to be polite was a strain on the brain!! Lol. Are ya gonna put your letter up for us to read?

As I am sure you are more than aware of the current situation in
Zimbabwe . I am a Zimbabwean who is fortunate enough to have British
grandparents and have been able to leave and make a new life for myself in the
UK.

However I still have family and friends in Zimbabwe who are really
suffering, what you see on the television is not showing you 5% of what its
really like... I am sure that is you spoke to just one or two of the
people actually caught up in the disaster that is Zimbabwe, you too
would feel as I do and have an urge to TRY and help...

Please is there anything your goverment can do to help these people out
- they are dying on a daily basis and yet food aid is not even been
made an option. In fact nothing what so ever has been done...

Most of these people are of British decent - do they not deserve the
right to be helped by the British goverment?

I thank you for you time and I honestly pray that this unsignificant
email in comparision to the hundreds you must receive does not fall on
deaf ears...

Yours faithfully
Belinda Kevany

Very good SB, if we all send emails, by the end of the week, perhaps he will be given a 'outline' of voters concerns, don't hold your breath honey..... but it's worth a try.

does no-one else out there have family back home that they are worried about?!

Chick

Yes I do. I am in regular contact with them via emails when the power is on and sometimes the phones even work. They are managing because friends and family drive from Zambia once a month with food/medicines supplies..... A lot of people are clubbing together - buying petrol (for some weird reason Shurugwi always has petrol at the garage, probably due to the mine) and driving to Botswana to shop.
