Please see the email below. What are your experiences of Zim new years from the old days at the locations of Vic Falls, Nyanga and Kariba?
Hello Shayne,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. If you have any information you may have on what happened at the parties in terms of entertainment and special things that distinguished one from the other (I heard the one at Troutbeck generally comprised of dancing in a marquee and lots of mud?) .
If you have somthing on the organizers it would also be great, but mostly I'm trying to build up a picture of how these parties were structured and what they featured, so that we can do something along the same lines.
Thank you for your help,
Mariana

Greetings Mariana,
A little confused. Do you need information on the locations or the
companies that arranged them. If you can get back to me, I'll gladly
help you gather all the info.
Regards
Shayne

Hello,
My name is Mariana and I am the Events Manager at Zulus bar in
London. This year we are looking to host a Zimbabwean New Years
party based on the ones in Victoria Falls, Inyanga and Kariba. Never
having been to any of these places myself I was wordering if you
could help me by sending any information you may have on them, or
any suggestions on where I could find some background material.
Thank you for your assistance,
Mariana Pereira

had to make sure there was plenty of alcohol and toilets... everything else was adlib as far as i was aware...
oh and some good DOOF DOOF always went down well.
Bush bash (Kariba 2000) was very well organised, wristbands could be purchased from a number of outlets and only people with wristbands were allowed in. the biggest thing is to make it well publicised, ive found that more recent events have been relying on word of mouth, often after several years of having the same people there tends to reduce numbers.
Not everyone uses the internet like we do and therefore flyers in popular zim haunts , saffa shops etc will be a good idea.

Zimbo party? Just add alcohol

Yeh that about sums it Joe - Just add alcohol - and maybe a pool table! and for god sake get stuff that can't break! Add good music and let the good times roll!
PS - Dont forget the braai in the half drum and a tonne of vors! If it snows - make snowmen and use them as a cooler box thingie for the beer - we do and it works a treat.
Add Zimbo's dressed up as if they are on an expediction to the north pole and BAM you have your self a Zimbo New Year! In my experiance the cold seems to go after a couple of crates!

A lot of these events were organised by the local charities and sports clubs. I'll try find out who organised the Kariba bash 'coz my bro supplied the disco there a few times.

Okay - just got a message from a really good friend in Harare - apparently those gigs were organised by the night-clubs around Harare in the past (which you probably already know) but now the independent dj's are doing it. Suggestion - contact some of the more well-known guys via the net and take it from there. Sorry, I did what I could.

Do you think we might have a dignified affair ? Tux and Bow tie etc, rather than a bunch of people acting like baboons and bouncing off the furniture.
A traditional explorers evenings, dinner served by candle light, waterford crystal, port in decanters, cigars .... that sort of thing.

when was the last time where a tucks and bow tie stop people from acting like baboons?
Nope, not black tie or dinner but smat dress will be the order of the night(no trainers etc.) Unfortunately it will not include a sit down dinner, though I think that New Years always makes for a good party!

Decorum and manners, eqtiquette ! One should be reminded upon entering the establishment, that horse play, bad manners or foul language will result in eviction.
Gentlemen are expected to keep their attire on, whilst women are expected to behave in a fashion befitting such an occasion, sneaking off and in-appropriate behavior will again result in eviction from the establishment.
It would foster a nice formal atmosphere in which one could celebrate the coming of the new year in style.

I'm thinking that maybe what made a Zim party so good was a Kariba sunset, water from the Zambezi, elephants, hippo's, Holding your beer up to the light to make sure that there were no floaties...................
All of which isn't very helpful.
