I am concerned that the 69 year old victim was described as "elderly". Now, I am 66 ..... Hmmm!

The dude on the left of this pic had just seen off a large Cape Point baboon, with a butter knife. To be fair, he used to work at Kruger National Park, during his university vacations, so his wild animal management skills are pretty good.

The logical thing to do would be to to shoot the lot of them. They are to urbanised and this will only lead to worse in the future !

What would happen if Cde Zuma walked into his suite at the mount nelson to find Jimmy in bed with his Nos 3 wife ?

I dont think he would quote the words of Cde Nelson " Ah this is a great opportunity for all of us "

I know that homeless shelter. A son of friends of my Mom & Dad has been in and out of the place since the 1980s. They are a decent family. He is an excellent new vehicle salesman, when he is sober. He keeps falling off the wagon and ending back at that place, with all the wayward misfits.

I hate bobos - they would often invade our house in Kariba and they were so intimidating - I really don't like them at all!

I suggested to a friend, who has baboon trouble in Glencairn Heights, that a good wallop with a pick axe handle would see them on their way. I thought that she was going to have a heart attack. "You can't do that to the baboons!", was her response.

I used to threaten them with a spear gun - that would get rid of them quick sharp. Otherwise my hubby would shoot one or two every now and again and they would stay away for months. They are such dangerous pests!

yeah, they used to get into our garden and eat the sheep food and stuff.
My mom shot one once, and we didn't see them again for about 18 months. If they were near the fence she'd go into the garden and they would flee!
It was only when the drought was really bad that they got brave again.

When I was a youngster, the (then) Rhodesian Government paid a bounty on the shooting of baboons. To collect the money, the hunter had to bring in the tail.

Farmer's would trap baboons in their mielie fields with a simple method. They would secure a hollowed out pumpkin to the ground, at the edge of the field. The hole at the top would be just big enough for a baboon's hand to fit through. A few mielie pips would placed inside the pumpkin.

A baboon would come along and try to retrieve the mielie pips. The clenched fist was now too big to fit through the hole. The baboon was stuck and didn't think to let the pips go. The farmer would shoot the baboon the next morning. Looking back, that sounds very cruel.

No, I couldn't care less for the sh-ts. I once watched a baboon ...those of you who are squeamish best stop reading right now.....rip out the guts of a new born lamb, that was still alive, and sit eating it. It was a huge dog baboon, the pack leader, and I'm certain he knew my husband was out. For once Bill had mistakenly gone with the gun cabinet keys, (this was prior to the war) so all I could do was chase it with rocks and a large branch intil it sauntered off. I loath the barstards.

Petals, I too am sure they know when there is not a man around. They used to come onto the veranda of our house in Kariba if I was on my own - they never dared if Gary was at home with me - they are far too intelligent and so, so scary!

Yeah the baboons used to come and piss in our pool..... until I went with a shot gun they ran up into the pine trees. As it was difficult to see them I could see the shadows of the baboons running around in the trees, I then fired a couple of blasts from the shot gun. I thought I missed them, started walking away and the next minute the wind started blowing and 4 baboons fell out of the tree all dead..... didn't see them for months until the peaches were ripe....

They have an excellent sense of smell, and they can easily tell the difference between man and woman, pheromones are extremely strong, and particulary so if you are on.

Its like sugar to a bee they can smell you a mile off.
